Editoral Review

Angel’s Tip by Alafair Burke is a gripping crime thriller that showcases the author’s skilled storytelling abilities. Burke is an American crime novelist and professor based in New York City.

She has penned several successful books featuring crime lawyer Samantha Kincaid and NYPD Detective Ellie Hatcher. Angel’s Tip is her fifth novel and was first published on January 1, 2008.

The book belongs to the crime thriller genre, and Burke delivers an action-packed plot with a dose of mystery and suspense. The story is set in New York City and features protagonist Detective Ellie Hatcher, who is investigating the brutal murder of a young woman at a trendy Manhattan nightspot.

When a video of the victim’s last moments is leaked on the internet, the case becomes a high-profile one, and Ellie faces increasing pressure to solve it quickly. The investigation leads Ellie down a dangerous path, and she discovers that the victim had a secret life that included multiple sexual partners and cocaine use.

As Ellie delves deeper into the case, she realizes that the key to solving it lies in finding the victim’s missing boyfriend. The book is fast-paced and keeps the reader on edge until the very end.

Burke’s writing is polished, and she creates well-rounded characters, particularly Ellie, who is a complex and relatable protagonist. The author’s depiction of New York City, with its vibrant nightlife and gritty streets, is vivid and sets the perfect tone for a crime thriller.

Burke tackles themes of corruption, sex, and drug abuse and raises questions about morality and justice in modern society. Angel’s Tip is a fascinating exploration of New York City’s underworld and the people who inhabit it.

However, the book’s plot structure is somewhat predictable, and some readers may guess the twist ending before it is revealed. Also, the supporting characters could have been fleshed out more.

Nonetheless, Burke’s writing style and character development make up for these slight flaws. Overall, Angel’s Tip is an excellent crime thriller that will appeal to fans of the genre.

Burke’s writing style is sophisticated and engaging, and Ellie Hatcher is a memorable protagonist. The book offers a gripping plot, a vivid setting, and thought-provoking themes.
