Overview

Katie Alender’s Bad Girls Don’t Die follows Alexis, a high school student who thinks her dysfunctional family is the only thing she has to worry about. However, when her younger sister Kasey starts displaying disturbing behavior – from changing eye color to speaking old-fashioned language – Alexis realizes that their old house holds dangerous secrets.

Doors open and close by themselves, the unlit stove boils water, and the air conditioner turns the house into an icy tomb. Alexis wants to believe it’s just her imagination, but as the paranormal occurrences become increasingly dangerous, she realizes she must act fast to save her family and her blossoming relationship with the class president.

Alexis is convinced that only she can stop Kasey, but what if her sister is no longer even human?

Editoral Review

“Bad Girls Don’t Die” by Katie Alender is a young adult horror novel that was first published on April 21, 2009. Alender is an American author known for her works in the young adult genre, with her most well-known books being the “Bad Girls Don’t Die” trilogy.

The novel follows the story of Alexis, a teenage girl who lives in a suburban town with her family. Despite her good grades and responsible behavior, Alexis is an outcast at school, and her only friend is her younger sister, Kasey.

However, when Kasey starts acting strangely, Alexis realizes that something sinister is at play. As the paranormal activity around her intensifies, Alexis is forced to confront the demons of her past and fight to save her sister’s soul.

Alender’s writing style is engaging and fast-paced, making it easy for readers to get absorbed in the story. The main characters are well-developed, especially Alexis, whose struggles with social isolation and insecurity are relatable to many teenagers.

The setting of the book, a typical suburban town, adds to the realism of the story and makes it more relatable to readers.

The horror elements in the book are well-executed, with Alender expertly building tension and suspense throughout the story. The paranormal activity is genuinely creepy and unsettling, making it a perfect read for those who enjoy horror and suspense.

While the book has its strengths, it also has some weaknesses. The plot structure is somewhat predictable, and some of the characters’ actions feel forced and unrealistic.

Furthermore, the book’s resolution feels rushed and unsatisfying.

Overall, “Bad Girls Don’t Die” is a well-written young adult horror novel that will appeal to fans of the genre. While it has its flaws, the engaging writing style and relatable characters make it an enjoyable read.

I would give it a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend this book to teenagers who enjoy horror and suspense. It deals with themes of isolation, family, and the supernatural, making it a thought-provoking read.

While it may not be the most original horror novel out there, it is still a worthwhile addition to the genre.
