About the Author
Meet Koushun Takami, the brilliant author behind the internationally acclaimed novel Battle Royale. Originally published in Japanese and later translated into English by Yuji Oniki, Takami’s work has been published by Viz Media and an expanded edition was later released by Haika Soru, a division of Viz Media.
Takami was born in Amagasaki, Hyōgo Prefecture near Osaka and grew up in Kagawa Prefecture of Shikoku. He earned a degree in literature from Osaka University, but dropped out of Nihon University’s liberal arts correspondence course program.
From 1991 to 1996, Takami worked as a reporter for the news company Shikoku Shimbun, covering a variety of subjects such as politics, police reports, and economics.
After leaving the news company, Takami completed his controversial novel, which was rejected in the final round of a literary competition. However, when Battle Royale was finally released in 1999, it became an instant bestseller.
The novel was later made into a manga and feature film.
Takami is currently hard at work on his second novel, and we can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next.

Koushun Takami is a Japanese author and journalist who wrote this book in 1999. The novel has since gained international recognition, particularly after being adapted into a popular film by director Kinji Fukasaku.
It’s important to note that the content of the book is somewhat graphic and violent, and may not be suitable for some readers. The novel is set in a fictional, totalitarian Japan, where the government has established a brutal program known as the Battle Royale Act.
Under this program, school children are randomly selected and forced to fight to the death in a remote location, with only one survivor allowed. The story follows a class of students from Shiroiwa Junior High School, who are the latest group selected to participate in this gruesome contest.
