With secrets and danger lurking around every corner, Seth and Raine will have to trust each other completely if they hope to survive.

About the Author

I began writing my first romance novel in secret while working in a Manhattan insurance office. The office manager insisted that I always appear busy, which was not my strong suit.

I felt guilty wasting time and desired to supplement my other career as a singer. I chose to pursue writing instead of a practical Plan B, which is typical for most artists.

I called it a “Long Shot.”

To avoid suspicion, I created two documents, a spreadsheet, and a story. Whenever my boss walked by, I quickly switched the screen.

However, I never neglected my duties. I always completed my assignments.

Being sneaky was familiar to me because I had been teased for reading romances since childhood. The day I stopped hiding my reading materials on public transportation was the day I claimed my adulthood.

Writing became serious when I moved to Italy. I had many long, quiet days alone, so I finished my manuscript and sent it to publishers.

Kensington accepted it, and I wrote for them for a few years. Later, I submitted an erotic novella to the new Brava imprint, and it was accepted.

I continued writing, and this is how I began my career.

It is difficult and scary to write in solitude with a blank screen, but it is worth it. There is nothing else I would rather do.

Editoral Review

Behind Closed Doors by Shannon McKenna is a heart-pumping romantic suspense novel that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. First published on September 1, 2002, Shannon McKenna’s work is known for its fast-paced plot, steamy romance, and intricate character development.

The novel is set in the city of Chicago, where the protagonist, Seth Mackey, is a former criminal, currently working as a private investigator. Seth is working for the wealthy, powerful Vernet family, whose daughter, Raine, is in a dangerous situation.

Raine, who has been sheltered from the world her entire life, is being targeted by a criminal network for her family’s wealth. The novel’s primary theme is that of redemption, as Seth attempts to reconcile with his past criminal life by protecting Raine and her family, despite his personal struggles.

The themes of violence, betrayal, romance, and suspense blend together perfectly, as McKenna weaves a story that keeps the reader hooked from start to finish. McKenna has shown great skill in crafting a thrilling and emotionally charged plot, with dynamic twists and turns that keep the reader guessing.

Moreover, she’s done an incredible job of developing the main characters, Seth and Raine, showcasing their vulnerabilities and strengths while keeping the romance sizzling throughout. However, while McKenna has excelled in many areas, the novel’s pacing sometimes gets bogged down in places, which can detract somewhat from the overall reading experience.

Additionally, some readers may note that the novel can be quite explicit, which may not be to all readers’ taste. Nonetheless, these minor flaws do not detract from the fact that Behind Closed Doors is a top-notch romantic suspense novel.

The steamy tension, heart-pumping action and thought-provoking themes will delight romance and suspense fans alike. Overall, Behind Closed Doors is an excellent book that’s captivating and compelling.

McKenna’s writing style is masterful in its elegance and focus, ensuring the novel is never bogged down by unnecessary information or distractions. Thrilling and engaging, the novel is perfect for readers looking to sink their teeth into a book that’s both romantic and thrilling.

On a scale of one to ten, Behind Closed Doors by Shannon McKenna gets an eight out of ten from us for its superb storytelling, fantastic character development, and a satisfying blend of romance and suspense. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy romantic suspense and thrillers.
