But when Nightsinger, the witch who saved her life, demands that Zera infiltrate the royal court and steal the heart of the Crown Prince in exchange for her own, Zera is left with no choice. She must complete the task or risk having her heart destroyed by Nightsinger.

However, the Crown Prince, Lucien d’Malvane, is no easy target. He is handsome, powerful, and has a reputation for being untouchable.

But when Zera arrives at court, she throws the Prince’s life into chaos. He finds himself drawn to the carefree, witty and fearless Zera, but little does he know that she’s out for his blood.

A dangerous game of cat and mouse ensues, with both parties fighting for their lives. The winner takes it all, but in this case, it’s the loser’s heart, quite literally.

About the Author

Meet Sara Wolf, a young author in her twenties with a passion for baking, yelling at her cats, and laughing at her own witty writing. As a child, she was more interested in playing with dirt than writing books.

But fast forward two decades, and Sara found herself sitting in front of a keyboard, pounding away at the keys to create her infamous Lovely Vicious series. Today, she calls Portland, Oregon home where she basks in the lack of sunlight and constantly craves fruit tarts.

Editoral Review

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf is a young adult fantasy novel published in 2018. The story takes place in a kingdom called Renovia, where magic rules the realm and the heart is the most valuable possession a person possesses.

Sara Wolf is an American author of young adult literature, known for her sharp humor and unconventional romance plots. The story follows Zera, a young girl who was robbed of her heart by a witch, a curse she sees as a gift because it allows her to be immortal.

To fulfill her desire for revenge, Zera makes a deal with a prince, offering her services as a spy in exchange for a new heart. However, to get the heart, she must infiltrate the inner circle of the court and win the prince’s trust.

As Zera tries to adjust to her new life as a human and fake her emotions and intentions, she starts to question her loyalty and confronts her moral values. Bring Me Their Hearts offers an intricate plot that is both surprising and captivating.

The twists and turns in the story create an engaging and suspenseful atmosphere, full of questions and conflicts that challenge the protagonist and push her to grow and evolve. The novel also explores themes of identity, belonging, and self-discovery, as Zera struggles to reconcile her past actions with her present ones and find her true purpose.

Sara Wolf’s writing style is witty and confident, with a strong sense of voice and a good balance between dialogue and description. The world-building is rich and imaginative, with vivid descriptions of the magic system and the society’s culture and customs.

The characters are well-developed, each with their own personality and backstory that contributes to the overall narrative. However, the pacing of the story could be improved, as some sections feel rushed, while others drag on for too long.

Some of the plot developments also feel predictable and clich, especially in the romance subplot. Additionally, some of the supporting characters lack depth and motivation, making them feel flat and one-dimensional.

Overall, Bring Me Their Hearts is an enjoyable and entertaining read for fans of young adult fantasy. It offers a unique take on the genre, combining elements of magic, romance, and politics, into a compelling narrative that will keep readers engaged from beginning to end.

I give Bring Me Their Hearts 4 out of 5 stars, for its creative world-building, engaging protagonist, and strong writing style. Nonetheless, the uneven pacing and predictable plot points prevent it from being a 5-star book.

I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy YA fantasy with a strong female lead, complex relationships, and dark humor.
