About the Author

Hello there! I’m a 20-something from Montreal, Canada, but I’m currently living in Virginia for school. Although I’ve been in college for two years now, I still haven’t figured out what I want to major in.

In my free time, I enjoy writing (which is probably how you stumbled upon me), watching movies, and cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Despite my lack of singing and dancing skills, I’m a huge music lover.

Back in the summer of 2013, I decided to start Ruthless People in hopes of creating a new kind of love and crime drama. Little did I know that there were so many people out there who shared my interests! I feel incredibly grateful to have such wonderful fans like you.

Writing is my true passion, and knowing that my words bring joy to others is a dream come true.

Editoral Review

J.J. McAvoy’s Children of Ambition is a highly topical and complex novel set in the present day United States. McAvoy, who is known for her gripping dark romances, has ventured into the realm of political fiction with this book, and it is safe to say that she has nailed it.

Children of Ambition is a political thriller set in Washington D.C., where power and corruption rule supreme. The novel follows two young people, Kennedy Barnes and Bryce Colton, as they navigate the political landscape of the nation’s capital.

Kennedy is a brilliant and ambitious political strategist who has to make hard choices when her loyalties are tested. Meanwhile, Bryce is a well-connected congressman who hides a dark secret about his past that could ruin his career.

The novel is fast-paced and suspenseful, with plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader engaged. McAvoy’s writing style is crisp and straightforward, with a keen eye for detail and a knack for dialogue.

The author has done an excellent job of portraying the cut-throat nature of Washington politics, with all its backstabbing, manipulation, and conspiracies. One of the strengths of the novel is its complex characters.

Kennedy and Bryce are both well-developed and multi-layered, with flaws and virtues that make them relatable and human. The secondary characters, including Kennedy’s boss, colleagues, and friends, are also fleshed out and add depth to the story.

Another strength of the novel is its relevance to current events. McAvoy touches on a variety of issues that are hotly debated in today’s political climate, including gun control, immigration, and campaign finance.

The novel examines these issues from different perspectives, and while it does not offer easy solutions, it does provide food for thought. However, the novel’s pacing can be a bit uneven at times, with some scenes dragging on longer than necessary.

Additionally, the ending feels rushed and could have benefited from more buildup and suspense. Overall, Children of Ambition is a gripping and thought-provoking political thriller that will appeal to readers who enjoy fast-paced, character-driven fiction.

McAvoy’s writing is sharp and insightful, and her portrayal of Washington D.C.’s political landscape is both accurate and chilling. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to delve into the dark underbelly of American politics.
