Editoral Review

Counsellor by Celia Aaron is a gripping thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Aaron, a self-proclaimed lover of dark romance and fantasy, has penned a tale of a counselor who is hiding a dangerous secret, and the woman who falls for him.

Set in the fictional small town of Willow Creek, Counsellor tells the story of Lark, a young woman with a troubled past who seeks the help of the local counselor, David. David is handsome, successful, and seems to have everything going for him.

But as Lark becomes more involved in his life, she begins to uncover an unsettling truth about him. Aaron’s writing style is fluid and descriptive, bringing the charming town of Willow Creek to life.

The plot is fast-paced and full of suspense, with unexpected twists and turns that will leave readers gasping. Aaron’s attention to detail is impressive, and her characterization is spot-on, making each character feel like a real person with their own motivations and flaws.

At its core, Counsellor is a story about two damaged people who find solace in each other, but also a story about power and control, and the lengths people will go to protect their secrets. Aaron weaves in themes of mental health, trauma, and addiction, making the book a thought-provoking read that goes beyond the typical romance thriller.

However, the book is not without its flaws. The ending may feel rushed to some readers, and the romance between Lark and David could be seen as problematic by those sensitive to power dynamics in relationships.

Additionally, some of the plot points may be predictable to experienced thriller readers. Overall, Counsellor is a well-written and engrossing thriller that fans of the genre will thoroughly enjoy.

It’s a compelling read that touches on important themes and leaves readers wanting more. I recommend this book to fans of Karin Slaughter and Gillian Flynn, or anyone looking for a suspenseful and thought-provoking thriller.
