Overview

“Crankee Doodle” tells the story of a grumpy pony and his owner, Mr. Doodle, who just wants to be left alone. The famous ride to town and the feather in Mr. Doodle’s hat were all the pony’s idea, but Mr. Doodle wants nothing to do with it.

He doesn’t want macaroni, feathers or anything else that town has to offer. Follow their hilarious journey as Mr. Doodle tries to convince the pony to turn around and go home.

This playful picture book sheds new light on the classic tune “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and includes a historical note for those curious about the song’s origins.

Editoral Review

Tom Angleberger’s Crankee Doodle is a humorous and entertaining children’s book that will leave children wanting more. The book was first published on June 4, 2013, and since then it has received critical acclaim and admiration from both children and adults alike.

Angleberger is well known for his creativity and innovation in the children’s book genre, and Crankee Doodle is no exception. The book is a parody of the classic American song, “Yankee Doodle” that introduces new lyrics and delightful illustrations.

This book is a perfect read for all children who love a good laugh and clever wordplay. The book’s vivid illustrations and witty text showcase the author’s ability to create a fun and engaging story.

The book follows the story of a stick horse named Crankee Doodle who is not interested in going to town with his owner. Crankee Doodle initially refuses but eventually agrees to go under one condition: that he be allowed to stop at a farm to see some pumpkins.

Along the way, Crakee and the main character meet a range of interesting characters, each with their own personalities and quirks. Through the story, the author highlights the importance of patience, understanding, and compromise.

The storyline is easy to follow and engaging, and the characters are well-developed with unique personalities that children can relate to. The setting of the story is in a rural area, which introduces children to different landscapes and ways of life.

The book is also significant historically and culturally as it plays with a well-known American song and presents it in a refreshing way. The book can introduce children to American history and the classic song.

Tom Angleberger’s Crankee Doodle is an excellent example of a well-written and entertaining children’s book. The author does an excellent job of creating engaging characters and witty text.

The illustrations are also top-notch, and they complement the text beautifully. The only weakness of the book is its length; it may be too short for some avid readers.

Overall, Crankee Doodle is a must-read book for children who love a good story with humor, engaging characters, and delightful wordplay. I would recommend this book to children between the ages of 4 and 8, and for parents who are looking for a book to read with their children.

Crankee Doodle is an excellent educational tool for teaching children about patience, understanding, and compromise. Therefore, I give this book a solid score of 4 out of 5, based on its well-developed characters, outstanding illustrations, engaging story, and historical significance.
