Editoral Review

Victoria Laurie’s Crime Seen is a thrilling murder mystery novel that is sure to captivate readers with its compelling plot, well-developed characters, and tension-filled narrative. Laurie, a best-selling author known for her paranormal-themed books, takes readers down a different path with this novel, diving into the world of crime-solving and police investigations.

The novel was first published on September 4, 2007, and has since become a fan favorite. The story takes place in an idyllic beach town in California, where the protagonist Abby Cooper, a psychic detective, has just solved a high-profile murder case.

However, her triumph is short-lived as she soon discovers another murder victim that seems connected to the previous case. Things get even more complicated when Abby’s husband, Dutch, a beat cop, becomes a suspect in the new murder case.

Abby finds herself in a race against time to clear her husband’s name and solve the case before it’s too late. Laurie’s writing style is engaging and gripping, hooking readers from the very first page.

The characters are well-rounded and fleshed out, with Abby Cooper taking center stage as a smart, confident, and likable protagonist. The supporting cast is equally impressive, adding depth and complexity to the story.

The plot is well-constructed, with plenty of twists and turns that keep readers guessing until the very end. One of the strengths of Crime Seen is its ability to seamlessly blend elements of the psychic world with traditional police procedural work.

Laurie expertly weaves in the psychic abilities of Abby Cooper without making it feel forced or contrived. The supernatural elements of the story add an extra layer of intrigue, making it stand out from other murder mystery novels.

However, one of the weaknesses of Crime Seen is that at times the plot feels predictable. While Laurie does an excellent job of keeping readers engaged with plenty of twists and turns, some plot points may be too easy to guess for experienced murder mystery readers.

Additionally, some readers may find the portrayal of psychics and their abilities to be unrealistic or overly fantastical. Overall, Crime Seen is an enjoyable murder mystery novel that will appeal to fans of the genre.

The novel’s seamless blend of psychic elements with traditional police procedural work, well-developed characters, and compelling plot make it a must-read. Despite some minor flaws, Laurie’s Crime Seen is a well-crafted, engaging, and suspenseful novel that is sure to satisfy fans of the genre.
