Editoral Review

Dark Instincts by Suzanne Wright is a paranormal romance novel that was first published in April 2015. Wright is an accomplished author with several books under her belt, including the Deep In your Veins and Phoenix Pack series.

Her writing style is characterized by fast-paced action and dialogue-driven storytelling with a focus on the supernatural world. The plot of Dark Instincts follows Taryn Warner, an unmated wolf shifter who is kidnapped by a powerful vampire named Trey Coleman.

Trey intends to use Taryn to get information about her pack and the wider shifter community. However, as they spend more time together, Taryn and Trey begin to develop romantic feelings for one another.

Soon, they find themselves caught in a dangerous political game between warring shifter factions and a vengeful vampire clan. One of the strengths of Dark Instincts is the complex world-building that Wright creates.

She seamlessly weaves together different supernatural beings, such as shifters, vampires, and witches, in a way that feels natural and compelling. The political intrigue and power struggles between different groups add depth and tension to the plot.

Additionally, Taryn and Trey are well-developed characters with clear motivations and flaws. Their chemistry is palpable, and the slow-burn romance between them is satisfying to read.

Wright also does an excellent job of balancing the romance with the action and suspense of the plot, making for an engaging read. However, some readers may find the dialogue between Taryn and Trey to be overly snarky and sarcastic, which can come across as forced or unrealistic.

Additionally, the plot can be somewhat predictable at times, and some of the side characters could have been fleshed out more. Overall, Dark Instincts is a solid entry in the paranormal romance genre that will appeal to fans of supernatural world-building, romance, and action.

The book touches on themes of loyalty, power dynamics, and overcoming prejudice, which are relevant in today’s society. While it may not be a groundbreaking book, it has all the hallmarks of a successful genre novel.

Based on this, I would rate Dark Instincts a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. While it has its flaws, it’s an entertaining and engaging read that should satisfy fans of the genre.
