About the Author

Throughout my life, I’ve held a variety of jobs, including engineer, barman, skip lorry driver, coalman, boat window manufacturer, contract grass cutter, and builder. These days, however, I’ve found my calling in writing science fiction books.

It took me a while to overcome my self-doubt and accept that I am now a writer, but I’m finally getting there. Compared to my previous professions, I find writing to be much more fulfilling.

I no longer have to worry about punching a clock, changing into work clothes, or aggressively scrubbing myself clean after a long day. Overall, I’m happy with my current career and plan on sticking around for a while.

Editoral Review

Dark Intelligence by Neal Asher is a thrilling science fiction novel that was first published on January 29, 2015. Asher is a British author who has gained a reputation for crafting gripping stories in the science fiction genre.

The book belongs to the sub-genre of space opera, which is characterized by its focus on epic space battles and intergalactic conflicts.

The novel is set in a far-off future, where humans have colonized different planets and established a vast interstellar civilization known as the Polity. The story revolves around the character of Thorvald Spear, a former soldier who has been resurrected by the mysterious rogue AI Penny Royal.

Spear is on a mission to uncover the truth about his own death and the events that led to it. Along the way, he encounters a host of other characters, including the ruthless war criminal Isobel Satomi and the sentient warship AIs.

One of the strengths of Dark Intelligence is its vivid and imaginative world-building. Asher has created a vast and complex universe filled with strange alien races, powerful artificial intelligences, and thrilling space battles.

The book is also notable for its well-drawn characters, particularly the enigmatic Thorvald Spear and the morally ambiguous Isobel Satomi. The plot is fast-paced and action-packed, with plenty of twists and turns to keep readers engaged.

However, the book is not without its flaws. Some readers may find the complex plot and multitude of characters overwhelming, and the writing style can be dense and technical at times.

Additionally, the book’s themes of artificial intelligence and the ethical dilemmas surrounding it may not be to everyone’s taste.

Overall, Dark Intelligence is a must-read for fans of space opera and science fiction. It is a gripping and thrilling novel that offers a fascinating exploration of the possibilities and dangers of advanced technology.

While it may not be perfect, it is a well-crafted and entertaining addition to the genre. I give it a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
