Editoral Review

Dengeki Daisy, Vol. 1 by Kyousuke Motomi is a thrilling manga that is sure to captivate readers looking for a mix of action, romance, and mystery.

Published on January 1, 2007, this book follows the story of orphaned teenager Teru Kurebayashi, who is left under the care of her older brother’s best friend, the enigmatic hacker known only as “Daisy”. The narrative starts with Teru’s distressing situation as she struggles to move on from her brother’s death while dealing with bullies at school.

Her only solace is Daisy, who communicates with her via her deceased brother’s phone number. As the story progresses, Teru discovers that Daisy is connected to her brother’s mysterious past as they work together to uphold justice and uncover the truth.

The characters in Dengeki Daisy are vividly portrayed, each with their distinctive traits and complexities. Teru’s tenacity, Daisy’s intelligence, and the recurring bully’s insecurities all add depth to the story.

The setting of the 21st century in Japan adds cultural relevance to the story, as the themes of cyber-security and the influence of the internet on society play out throughout the book. Kyousuke Motomi’s writing style is top-notch.

Her imaginative mind and exceptional storytelling skills are evident in this book’s pace and structure. The gripping storyline with its twists and turns keeps the reader engaged, and the inclusion of humor and romance serves to uplift the overall mood of the book.

While the book possesses numerous strengths, there are several weaknesses. For instance, the insta-love trope between Teru and Daisy borders on cliché, and the portrayal of the school bully as too one-dimensional.

However, this does not undermine the overall quality of the book as the positives far outweigh the negatives. Overall, Dengeki Daisy, Vol.

1 by Kyousuke Motomi is an excellent read for manga enthusiasts who enjoy a good dose of action, suspense, and romance. It is an elegant blend of contemporary and traditional storytelling that will keep readers engrossed from the beginning till the end.

I highly recommend this book for its compelling storyline, exceptional writing, and memorable characters. With that said, I give Dengeki Daisy, Vol.

1 a rating of 8 out of 10.
