About the Author

Writing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. No matter what story I was crafting, whether it was about a prince with laser eyes or something more grounded, there was always a romantic thread woven throughout.

Creating unique characters and giving them happy endings is what I love to do, even if it means listening to the voices in my head. There’s no other job I could see myself doing.

In September 2002, the call came that Silhouette Desire wanted to purchase my first book, Desert Warrior. It was a dream come true, and I hope to keep living that dream until I’m old and grey, slumped over my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and grew up in New Zealand, but I spent three years living and working in Japan, taking the opportunity to travel around Asia. Even now that I’m back in New Zealand, I’m always planning my next adventure.

If you’re interested in seeing some of my travel photos, check out my Travel Diary page (which I update every month).

Over the years, I’ve held many different jobs, including lawyer, librarian, candy factory worker, bank temp, and English teacher – and not always in that order. Some might see this as inconsistency, but I see it as inspiration for my writing.

Editoral Review

Desert Warrior by Nalini Singh is a gripping tale of love, betrayal, and sacrifice set in the Arabian desert. Singh is a prolific author, known for her stunning works of romance and fantasy, and Desert Warrior, first published in 2003, is no exception.

The novel centers around the story of Juliana, a young woman searching for a new life, and Rasheed, a desert warrior in need of redemption. The book is a perfect blend of historical fiction, action, and romance, and is sure to keep readers captivated from start to finish.

Set against the backdrop of the Arabian desert, Singh paints a vivid picture of the landscape, its customs, and its people. The story is a masterful exploration of the cultural nuances of the region, from the strictures of gender roles to the intricacies of tribal politics.

Singh effectively portrays the customs and norms of the Arabian society in a way that is both informative and engaging. At the heart of the story is the character of Juliana.

Despite her privileged background, Juliana is determined to forge her own path in the world. Her strength and independence make her a refreshing heroine, and her journey of self-discovery is both compelling and relatable.

Rasheed, the male lead, is equally complex. A proud and fiercely independent warrior, Rasheed is haunted by the ghosts of his past.

Singh does an excellent job of balancing his tough exterior with moments of vulnerability, making him a character that readers will root for from the start. Singh’s writing is elegant and immersive.

Her prose is lyrical, and she weaves a complex web of intrigue and emotion that keeps readers invested in the story. The pacing is brisk, with plenty of action and suspense to keep the plot moving forward.

The themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and redemption are woven seamlessly into the narrative, making it a fully realized work of literature. One of the strengths of the book is the way that Singh explores the relationship between Juliana and Rasheed.

Their chemistry is electric, and the love story that unfolds is both sensual and heartfelt. Singh does an excellent job of developing their relationship organically, allowing it to evolve naturally over the course of the story.

The tension between them is palpable, and readers will be on the edge of their seats waiting to see if they will overcome the obstacles in their way. As with any book, there are some limitations to Desert Warrior.

At times, the plot can be predictable, and some of the secondary characters feel underdeveloped. However, these minor flaws do not detract from the overall quality of the book.

Overall, Desert Warrior is a captivating work of historical fiction that is sure to delight fans of romance, adventure, and action. Singh has crafted a world that is both fascinating and immersive, and her characters are dynamic and engaging.

The writing is elegant and sophisticated, and the themes are timeless. This book is a must-read for anyone looking for an exciting and thought-provoking tale of love and redemption in a vividly-rendered Arabian setting.

I give this beautiful novel a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
