About the Author

Jacqueline Rayner is a successful British author who is best known for her work in writing licensed fiction based on the popular British science fiction TV show, Doctor Who.

Rayner began her professional writing career by adapting Paul Cornell’s Virgin New Adventure novel, Oh No It Isn’t!, for the audio format. This adaptation was the first release by Big Finish, and Rayner went on to adapt five of the six Bernice Summerfield audio stories, including further work for Big Finish, before beginning work for BBC Books on their Doctor Who lines.

In 2001, Rayner published her first novels, EarthWorld and The Squire’s Crystal, for BBC Books and Big Finish respectively. She has since written several other Doctor Who spin-off novels, short stories, and four original audio plays.

In addition to her writing work, Rayner has also edited several anthologies of Doctor Who short stories and has contributed to Doctor Who Magazine. She has also written the children’s television tie-in book, Horses Like Blaze.

Since the start of the new Doctor Who TV series in 2005, Rayner has become one of the regular authors of the BBC’s New Series Adventures, along with Justin Richards and Stephen Cole. She has also abridged several books to be made into audiobooks.

Rayner was also a member of Doctor Who Magazine’s original Time Team.
