Editoral Review

Doctor Who: Touched By An Angel by Jonathan Morris is a science fiction novel and part of the Doctor Who tie-in series. Published on June 23rd, 2011, the author adds an original touch to the story established by the Doctor Who television show.

Set in World War II, the story follows the 11th Doctor and his companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams, as they find themselves stranded in a small village called Albar Preach in the east of England. They arrive in the midst of an unexpected air raid, with bombs falling all around them.

However, things get complicated when the trio realize that they have traveled back in time to an event that has already occurred, and that any interaction may lead to catastrophic consequences. As they navigate through the village they find themselves interwoven with the lives of an American airman, Billy Shipton, and a young girl, Sally Sparrow.

The group is further unsettled when they meet a group of eerie statues, menacingly referred to as “the Weeping Angels.”

Jonathan Morris’s writing is impressive and cleverly paced, seamlessly fitting into the kind of storytelling he inherited from the Doctor Who series. The book is filled with action but includes further emotional depth, making it a complete and well-rounded story.

Morris excels in his descriptions of the Weeping Angels, making them all the more terrifying. His balance of science fiction elements like time travel and futuristic technology with the harsh reality of World War II is commendable.

It’s clear that Morris is writing for an established audience, and there are several nods to characters and elements from the TV show. However, the book stands alone and can be enjoyed even by someone who’s never seen the show before, providing a brief introduction to the Doctor Who universe.

The story has a clear beginning, middle, and end, which is satisfactory and doesn’t leave any loose ends. One of Morris’s best qualities in the book is the authenticity of the historical elements he weaves throughout the story.

Morris’s vivid portrayal of life in the UK during World War II is well-researched and brings the story to life in a realistic and heart-wrenching way. Readers feel the anxiety and uncertainty of the times through the characters’ eyes.

Overall, Doctor Who: Touched By An Angel, presents a thoroughly enjoyable read for science fiction and Doctor Who fans alike. Morris’s level of detail and attention to the era is excellent, and his portrayal of the notorious Weeping Angels is unforgettable.

I highly recommend this novel to any reader who enjoys science fiction, time travel, and exciting action stories. Rating: 4.5/5 stars.
