In Dragonsblood, Todd McCaffrey takes us back to the world of Pern, where a deadly epidemic is spreading among the dragons. Lorana, a dragonrider, must race against time to find a cure for the sickness before the next cycle of Threadfall.

But the knowledge needed to save the dragons was lost over time, and Lorana must turn to the past for answers. As she searches for a cure, Lorana discovers a scientist from 500 years ago who foresaw the destruction of the dragons and was determined to change the future.

Lorana and the scientist become unlikely allies in a race to save Pern from certain doom. McCaffrey’s masterful storytelling will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

About the Author

Todd Johnson, better known by his pen name Todd J. McCaffrey, is an American author of science fiction.

He is most famous for his collaboration with his mother, Anne McCaffrey, in continuing the Dragonriders of Pern series.

Born on April 27, 1956, in Montclair, New Jersey, Todd is the second son and middle child of Horace Wright Johnson and Anne McCaffrey. He has two siblings, Alec Anthony and Georgeanne (“Gigi”, Georgeanne Kennedy).

Todd’s family moved frequently during his childhood, living in Delaware, Germany, and Long Island before ultimately settling in Ireland. It was there that Todd finished his secondary education before returning to the United States for college.

Initially studying engineering physics at Lehigh University, Todd eventually earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from the College of Technology in Dublin and a Politics degree from Trinity College, also in Dublin.

Todd spent four years in the United States Army stationed in Germany before returning to Ireland to pursue civilian life. He worked in computer programming before eventually becoming a full-time writer.

Todd’s interest in science fiction began at a young age, attending his first science fiction convention at the age of 12. He was exposed to his mother’s work early on, even helping her develop the concept of the Dragonriders of Pern series.

In addition to his collaborations with his mother, Todd has also written military science fiction under his birth name, Todd Johnson.

Todd’s contributions to the Dragonriders of Pern series have helped to continue his mother’s legacy as one of the most prominent authors in the science fiction genre.

Editoral Review

Dragonsblood by Todd McCaffrey is a book that will surely captivate the imagination of fantasy lovers. Todd McCaffrey is an American author, son of Anne McCaffrey the famous science fiction and fantasy author, and Dragonsblood is the fourth book in his young-adult Dragonriders of Pern series.

Published on January 1, 2005, the book is set in a world filled with dragons and dragon riders, and is a perfect blend of adventure, fantasy, and science fiction.

The book is set in Pern, a world where dragons are a part of everyday life. The story follows the life of Kindan, a young orphan who is taken in by the dragon riders.

He is fascinated by the dragons and yearns to become a dragon rider himself. However, Kindan’s journey is not easy as he faces many challenges and conflicts.

The book is beautifully written with a well-crafted plot that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. McCaffrey’s writing is descriptive and detailed, creating a vivid picture of the world of Pern and its inhabitants.

The book has a strong focus on character development, with Kindan being the protagonist and his journey being the central focus of the story. The supporting characters are also well developed and add depth to the story.

One of the strengths of the book is its exploration of themes like friendship, loyalty, love, and sacrifice. The book also touches on issues like bullying, discrimination, and social inequality, making it relevant to current events and issues.

The pacing of the book is well done, with the story moving forward at a steady pace. The plot structure is also well thought out, with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing.

However, the book does have some weaknesses, with some parts of the story feeling rushed and underdeveloped.

Comparing Dragonsblood to other works in its genre or by the same author, it is evident that McCaffrey has stayed true to his mother’s vision for the world of Pern. The book is a continuation of the Dragonriders of Pern series, and McCaffrey has done an excellent job in carrying on the legacy of the series.

In conclusion, Dragonsblood is a well-crafted book that will appeal to fantasy lovers. It has a well-developed plot, strong characters, and explores relevant themes.

While it does have some weaknesses, they do not detract from the overall enjoyment of the book. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy adventure.

On a scale of 1-10, I would give Dragonsblood a solid 8, as it is an excellent addition to the Dragonriders of Pern series.
