Editoral Review

Charlotte E. English’s Draykon is a thrilling addition to the fantasy genre.

This novel, published on August 31, 2011, is the first in a series that features a set of intriguing characters and a richly imagined world. English, a promising young author, has created a unique and detailed universe that is sure to delight fans of the genre.

Set in a fictional land called Lizardia, the novel follows the journey of a young girl named Llandry Sanfaer, an innocent and naive girl who soon discovers she has magical powers unlike anybody else. With the help of a man named Tren, Llandry embarks on a perilous journey across the land of Lizardia, facing danger and learning more about herself and the powers she possesses.

One of the greatest strengths of Draykon is the world building. English has created a richly imagined world that is a joy to explore.

The characters are well-drawn and their motivations are clear, which makes it easy for readers to follow along with the story. The pacing is excellent, with moments of action and adventure interspersed with quieter, more contemplative scenes.

We also appreciated English’s use of themes. The novel explores the dangers of power and the importance of self-discovery.

These themes are handled deftly, allowing readers to draw their own conclusions without being heavy-handed. However, there are a few minor flaws in the novel.

The plot can be a bit predictable at times, and some of the supporting characters could have been fleshed out more. These are minor quibbles, but they do keep Draykon from being a truly great novel.

Overall, we recommend Draykon for fans of the fantasy genre. It’s a solid debut by an impressive young author, and it’s sure to delight readers of all ages.

We give it four stars out of five.
