Editoral Review

“Eight’s Origin” by Pittacus Lore is a captivating science fiction novel that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. Pittacus Lore is the pseudonym of two authors, James Frey and Jobie Hughes, who are best known for their “I Am Number Four” series.

“Eight’s Origin” is the prequel to the series and was first published on August 13, 2012.

The book is set in a world where nine alien teenagers, called the Garde, have been sent to Earth to escape the destruction of their planet, Lorien. They are each assigned a number and a protector, called a Cêpan, to help them develop their Legacies, supernatural abilities that they inherit as they mature.

“Eight’s Origin” tells the story of Number Eight and his Cêpan, Katarina. The novel takes place in India and begins with Eight’s arrival on Earth.

The novel is written in the first person, from the perspective of Eight. The authors have done an excellent job of developing the character of Eight, and readers will be able to relate to his struggles and fears.

The relationship between Eight and Katarina is also well developed, and readers will root for them throughout the novel.

The plot of “Eight’s Origin” is fast-paced, with plenty of action and suspense. The authors have done an excellent job of creating a believable world, with detailed descriptions of the Garde’s powers and the challenges they face on Earth.

The novel also explores themes of identity, belonging, and the consequences of choices.

One of the significant strengths of “Eight’s Origin” is the quality of the writing. The authors’ prose is clear, concise, and engaging.

The dialogue is realistic, and the authors have done an excellent job of creating distinct voices for each character.

However, one of the weaknesses of the novel is its predictability. Readers who are familiar with the “I Am Number Four” series will already know the fate of Number Eight, which can take away from the suspense of the novel.

Overall, “Eight’s Origin” is an excellent addition to the “I Am Number Four” series. The authors have done an excellent job of developing the character of Eight and creating a believable world.

While the plot is somewhat predictable, the quality of the writing and the themes explored make it a worthwhile read for fans of the series or science fiction in general.

I would recommend “Eight’s Origin” to anyone looking for an action-packed science fiction novel that explores themes of identity and belonging. It would be most suitable for young adult readers.

I give “Eight’s Origin” a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
