Editoral Review

Eona: The Last Dragoneye, written by Alison Goodman, is a breathtakingly beautiful novel that immerses readers in a world filled with magic, dragons, and intense action. The novel is the second and final book in the Eon series and was published on April 19, 2011.

Goodman weaves an intricate tale that is both engaging and inventive. The author has an uncanny ability to immerse readers in the story, transporting them to a world that is both fantastical and immersive.

The characters are complex and multi-dimensional, with motivations and emotions that feel deeply human. The novel follows the journey of Eona, a seventeen-year-old girl who is a dragoneye, a powerful wielder of magic who can control one of the twelve dragons that protect the kingdom.

When the emperor dies, Eona finds herself caught up in a political struggle for the throne against the vile Lord Ido. With the help of her friends and allies, including the aloof Lord Dela, the charming Chart, and Ryko, her faithful protector, Eona must fight to take her place as rightful Empress while trying to maintain control over her dragon’s powers.

Goodman’s writing is impeccable, and it draws the reader in from the first page. She has an extraordinary knack for creating vividly detailed settings that are both fantastical and realistic.

Her descriptions of the magic and the dragons are particularly noteworthy, as they evoke powerful images that the reader can easily visualize. One of the novel’s highlights is its use of Eastern mythology and culture, which gives the story a unique and fascinating twist.

One of the strengths of the novel is the development of its characters. Eona, in particular, undergoes significant growth throughout the story.

She starts as a timid and inexperienced girl and evolves into a powerful and confident leader. Additionally, Goodman’s ability to create relationships that feel authentic and relatable adds to the richness of the book.

The pacing of the novel is exceptional, with just the right balance of action, drama, and introspection. The plot is tightly woven, with surprising twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end.

In terms of weaknesses, the novel can be overly descriptive at times, which may slow down the pacing in some areas. There are also some plot points that are not fully developed, leaving a few loose ends that might have been better served by further exploration.

Overall, Eona: The Last Dragoneye is a beautifully crafted and engaging novel that stands out in the crowded field of young adult fantasy. Its themes of love, loyalty, and self-discovery are universal and resonate deeply with readers of all ages.

Fans of the genre will find much to enjoy here, particularly those who appreciate strong female protagonists and inventive world-building. Rating: 4.5/5
