Editoral Review

Extinction Point by Paul Antony Jones is a sci-fi thriller that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. Published in 2012, the book is set in a near-future New York City that has been ravaged by an unknown virus that kills off all humans and animals except for a single survivor, Emily Baxter.

Jones creates a richly imagined world where the absence of human activity on the streets of Manhattan is both eerie and startling. Emily Baxter, a gritty and determined protagonist, discovers that not only has the virus wiped out all life but also telecommunication technologies have been disabled.

Emilys story picks up as she sets out for answers to find out what has caused the extinction of everything living except for her. The plot of the book is well-crafted, with an engaging storyline that keeps the reader engrossed from beginning to end.

Emilys struggle for survival builds up a tense atmosphere that holds the readers attention as they follow her journey. The book excels particularly because the author, Paul Antony Jones, puts a lot of focus on the character development without sacrificing the pace of the story progression.

Jones displays his creative writing skills excellently by humanizing Emilys story without resorting to sentimentality. The author uses Emilys isolation in the world and her emotional struggles as a metaphor for the anxieties that many readers are experiencing in this modern-day.

One of the strengths of the book is how the author weaves a complex and unique view of extinction while introducing new details that make the novel stand out. Jones’s novel is not only one of the best examples of his work, but it is also one of the best post-apocalyptic stories out there today.

The pacing of the book is superbly done, particularly in the first half. Jones builds up a lot of momentum while maintaining the tension that showcases the unpredictable nature of the unknown virus.

The author is an excellent storyteller that successfully balances suspense, action, and character development. While the book is undoubtedly a superb work of fiction, there were some letdowns.

The ending, in particular, may leave readers with more questions than answers. However, it remains a fantastic read and an incredible story.

The Extinction Point is recommended for science-fiction lovers of all ages who enjoy a well-written and emotionally charged story that is full of tension and suspense. This book will appeal to those who want to read a thrilling, fast-paced, and engaging story with relatable characters.

Overall, the Extinction Point is an outstanding effort by Jones that provides a new view of post-apocalyptic sci-fi. The depth of characters, a strong storyline, and a unique view of extinction make for an excellent and exciting read.

The book receives 4 out of 5 stars.
