Overview

The world is in danger as Angra’s Decay spreads, and no one is safe. Meira is determined to do whatever it takes to save her world.

She must learn to control her magic, and with the help of a mysterious Order, Meira sets out to do just that. But the ultimate solution to stopping the Decay lies deep within the Season Kingdoms, in a treacherous labyrinth that Meira must navigate alone.

She will have to make the biggest sacrifice of all to defeat Angra. Mather, on the other hand, will stop at nothing to save his queen.

He needs to find Meira, rally the Children of the Thaw, and finally confess his true feelings to her. But with a plan of attack that leaves no kingdom unscathed and a betrayal within their ranks, it seems impossible to win the war and protect Meira.

Meanwhile, Ceridwen, who has suffered at the hands of Angra, will do anything to save her people. She must make tough decisions that could cost her everything she has left.

As Angra continues to unleash the Decay on the world, Meira, Mather, and Ceridwen must come together to bring the kingdoms of Primoria together. If they don’t, they risk losing everything they hold dear.

About the Author

Sara Raasch discovered her love for books at a young age. Even at five years old, she would tag along with her friends’ lemonade stand and sell her hand-drawn picture books.

Although her friends still worry when she attempts to draw, her passion for writing continues to motivate her. Her first book, SNOW LIKE ASHES, is a young adult fantasy novel and the first in a trilogy.

Published by Balzer + Bray on October 14, 2014, it does not include any of her illustrations.

Editoral Review

Sara Raasch’s “Frost Like Night” is a captivating and mind-bending addition to the “Snow Like Ashes” trilogy. Published on September 20, 2016, it is both an extension of the previous books in the series and a satisfying conclusion to a beloved trilogy.

Raasch proves that she is a skilled writer capable of touching on themes that are highly relevant in today’s world. “Frost Like Night” continues the story of Meira, the fiercely independent heroine of the previous two books.

She is determined to save the kingdom of Primoria from the rule of the evil Angra, whose magic is now spreading across the land, threatening to extinguish the last remaining power of Primoria. Along with her friends, Meira embarks on a difficult journey to harness the power of the magical chasm beneath the kingdom and defeat Angra.

The book is set in a magical, frozen world filled with complex political and social dynamics. One of the strengths of the book is its pacing.

Raasch balances tension and calmness masterfully, with the right number of action scenes and introspective moments. Raasch’s strength also lies in the construction of her characters.

Meira, the boisterous and charismatic protagonist who remains true to herself despite the challenges, is one of the series’ most dynamic characters. Her love story with Theron, a prince who possesses his own set of conflicts and motives, is emotionally satisfying.

Another highlight of Raasch’s writing in “Frost Like Night” is the way she handles the book’s multi-perspective narrative. The story is told from the points of view of various characters, each of whom reveals crucial insights and surprising twists that keep the reader fully engaged.

Despite its many strengths, “Frost Like Night” has a few shortcomings. For instance, the book’s ending seems rushed and could have been fleshed out more fully.

Some plot threads also remain unresolved. Additionally, some fans of the series may find that this book is darker than the previous installments.

Overall, “Frost Like Night” is a worthy conclusion to the “Snow Like Ashes” trilogy. Sara Raasch’s writing is gripping, and the book satisfies fans of the series with its plot twists and lively cast of characters.

While it has a few flaws, it remains an excellent read with compelling storytelling, intense action, and immersive worldbuilding. Therefore, fans of young adult fantasy novels and readers who enjoy engaging novels with complex political and social dynamics will love this book.

Raasch’s trilogy is a must-read for anyone looking for a fantastic series with a strong female lead character. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
