About the Author

I was born into a family of Star Wars fans, with too many siblings to count. As a young Padawan, I endured countless Star Wars marathons.

Those movies left an indelible mark on me, as evidenced by the many references to them in my books. Though I’m all grown up now, I still believe in magic and mythical creatures, even though I’ve never seen a fairy, unicorn, or dragon.

I once tried to catch leprechauns, but they proved elusive.

I’m a writer, and my husband is my rock. We have a son who is the light of our lives.

We live on a farm, which keeps us busy with countless chores, from wrestling with cows to chasing after escaped livestock. I’ve recently taken up archery and hope to try horseback archery soon.

When I’m not writing or doing chores, I love to bake, though it’s hard to keep any treats in stock with two boys in the house.

As for what’s next for me, I’ll keep writing stories and going on adventures. I believe in leaping before you look and letting your dreams carry you on their wings.

Review of Guardian by Shannon Mayer

Shannon Mayer has carved out a name for herself in the urban fantasy genre, and Guardian, published on August 12, 2014, is one of her most acclaimed works. This book follows the story of a young woman named Amber, who discovers that she is part of a special group of supernatural beings known as Guardians.

Her life takes a turn for the dangerous as she gets pulled deeper into the world of magic, monsters, and a looming threat that could destroy everything she holds dear. Mayer’s writing style is fast-paced and action-packed, making Guardian an engaging read from start to finish.

The author masterfully creates a world full of magic and mystique, with details that are both eerie and captivating. The setting is vivid and immersive, with each description painting a picture of a dark, foreboding world teeming with supernatural creatures.

Mayer’s character development is another highlight of Guardian. The protagonist, Amber, is a relatable character who struggles with her new identity as a Guardian while also dealing with the challenges of being a single mother.

Her internal conflict resonates with readers and makes her journey all the more compelling. The supporting cast is equally complex, with each character possessing their own motivations, strengths, and flaws.

However, it must be said that the plot of Guardian can be a bit convoluted at times, with several subplots and twists that can be confusing even for readers well-versed in the urban fantasy genre. Some of the secondary characters could also have been developed more deeply, leaving readers with unanswered questions by the end of the book.

Despite these limitations, Guardian is still an excellent work of urban fantasy that is sure to delight fans of the genre. Mayer’s storytelling is gripping, and the world-building is fantastic, showcasing her talents as a writer.

Though it may not be perfect, the book still delivers an enjoyable reading experience. Overall, Guardian is a must-read for urban fantasy enthusiasts who are looking for engaging characters and an immersive magical world.

The book is an exciting adventure that is sure to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Based on my overall impression, I would give Guardian a rating of 4 out of 5, with the criteria being the quality of writing, character development, pacing, and plot structure.
