Overview

Grace Reeves, the First Daughter, has always been told what to do. But when she’s kidnapped by a ruthless gang of criminals, she’s forced to rely on Reid Allister, an escaped convict with a piercing gaze that awakens something deep inside her.

Reid is unlike anyone she’s ever met before, and even though he’s from a different world, Grace can’t help but feel drawn to him. As they make their escape, Reid realizes that protecting Grace is more important than anything else, even if it means risking his own life.

For a man with nothing to lose, claiming her as his own becomes the only thing that matters. Hell breaks loose as they fight to stay alive and navigate the dangerous world they find themselves in.

About the Author

Sophie Jordan’s love for historical romance novels began in her teenage years, when she would daydream in the back of her Spanish class. She decided to turn her passion into a career and pursued a degree in English and History.

Although she briefly attended law school, she quickly realized that literature was where her heart truly lay. Sophie taught high school English for a few years before resigning to focus on her writing dreams after the birth of her first child.

In just under three years, Sophie’s hard work paid off when her debut novel, which received a nomination for Best First Historical from Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice in 2006, was released. Her second book, published in March 2007, became a USA Today Bestseller.

Editoral Review

In Hell Breaks Loose, Sophie Jordan offers a gripping and action-packed novel that will have readers on the edge of their seats. Known for her skill in writing young adult and romance fiction, Jordan delivers a thrilling science-fiction story that explores themes of freedom, justice, and morality.

The story is set in a dystopian future where people with supernatural powers are hunted and forced to live in captivity. Among them is the main character, Riley, who possesses the ability to manipulate fire.

After years of living in hiding, Riley is captured alongside other “speci,” and they are taken to a secret research facility where they are subjected to brutal experiments. However, when a group of rebels known as the Fireborne attack the facility to free the prisoners, Riley’s life takes a dramatic turn.

She finds herself in the midst of a rebellion and must decide whether to embrace her powers and join the fight for freedom or to stay on the sidelines and hope for a peaceful resolution. One of the strengths of Hell Breaks Loose is its vivid and compelling characters.

Riley is a strong and resilient protagonist who is easy to root for, while the secondary characters add depth and complexity to the story. The romantic subplot between Riley and another captive, Jared, is well-developed and adds an emotional anchor to the high-stakes action.

Another strength of the novel is the world-building. Jordan has created a detailed and immersive world that is both imaginative and believable.

The dystopian society is well-crafted, and the science-fiction elements are introduced in a way that feels natural and organic. The pacing of the story is also effective.

The action sequences are intense and thrilling, while the quieter moments allow for character development and world-building. However, the plot does suffer from some predictability, and the ending feels rushed and somewhat unsatisfying.

Overall, Hell Breaks Loose is a well-written and engaging novel that will appeal to fans of action-packed science fiction. While it may not break new ground in terms of story or themes, it offers a compelling and entertaining read that is sure to satisfy.
