Overview

Suzanne Brockmann’s Hot Target is a thrilling novel that will leave your heart racing and your pulse pounding. Navy SEAL Chief Cosmo Richter is a man of action who never learned how to take a break.

So when he finds himself with a month’s leave, he offers his services to Troubleshooters Incorporated, a private-sector security firm known for carrying out covert missions too volatile for official U.S. military action. Richter’s first case is high-profile maverick movie producer Lucy Tait’s new film, which has drawn the fury of extremist groups due to its frank portrayal of a real-life hero’s homosexuality.

When the harassment turns to death threats, Troubleshooters is called in to provide round-the-clock bodyguards, much to Tait’s chagrin. FBI Agent Jules Cassidy is assigned to the case, but faces emotional obstacles such as his ex-lover and a growing attraction to Tait’s brother.

As Tait fights to succeed and survive on her own terms, she forms a bond with the quiet and capable Cosmo Richter. But when all hell breaks loose, desire and desperate choices will collide on a killing ground that may trap them both in the crossfire.

About the Author

Suzanne Brockmann had dreams of becoming the captain of a starship during her childhood. However, when that didn’t work out, she pursued her interests in military history, respect for servicemen and women, love of diversity, and passion for storytelling.

As a result, she became a bestselling romance author.

Over the past three decades, Brockmann has written sixty-three novels, including the award-winning Troubleshooters series which focuses on Navy SEAL heroes and the women (and sometimes men) who capture their hearts. Her personal favorite novel involves her most popular character, gay FBI agent Jules Cassidy, finding love and happiness with the man of his dreams.

This mainstream romance novel made it to the hardcover fiction bestseller list, and all earnings from it were donated to MassEquality, an organization that supports equal marriage rights.

Aside from writing books, Brockmann also writes and produces indie movies and TV shows, including the award-winning romantic comedy . Her latest feature, , is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.

In 2018, Brockmann was honored with the Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award from the Romance Writers of America. Her latest works include (Tall, Dark & Dangerous #14), which is available in print and e-book from Suzanne Brockmann Books.

She is also working on a six-episode LBGTQ rom-com TV series that will be available for streaming on Dekkoo in April 2023.

Editoral Review

Hot Target by Suzanne Brockmann is a romantic suspense novel that was first published on December 28, 2004. Suzanne Brockmann is a New York Times bestselling author and has received several awards and accolades for her work in the romance and suspense genres.

Hot Target is the eighth book in the Troubleshooters series and follows the story of Navy SEAL Chief Cosmo Richter and TV producer Jane Mercedes Chadwick. The novel is set in Boston and revolves around a complex web of characters, including Navy SEALs, FBI agents, and terrorists.

The main conflict in the novel is between the SEALs and a group of terrorists who are planning to attack Boston. Cosmo and his team work together with the FBI to prevent the attack, while Jane is caught up in the chaos and forced to confront her own fears and vulnerabilities.

One of the strengths of Hot Target is its well-developed characters. Brockmann does an excellent job of creating three-dimensional characters who feel real and relatable.

She also explores complex themes such as trauma, loss, and identity. The novel is fast-paced and suspenseful, and the plot twists and turns keep the reader engaged throughout.

However, there are some weaknesses in the novel. The pacing can feel uneven at times, and some subplots are not fully developed.

Additionally, some readers may find the romance between Cosmo and Jane to be somewhat formulaic and predictable.

Despite these flaws, Hot Target is an enjoyable and engaging read that will appeal to fans of the romance and suspense genres.

It also has historical and cultural significance, as it was published during a time when terrorism was a major concern in the United States. The novel offers a compelling look at how individuals and communities respond to threats of violence and terrorism.

Overall, I would recommend Hot Target to anyone looking for a suspenseful and entertaining read. The well-drawn characters, fast-paced plot, and exploration of complex themes make it a worthwhile addition to the Troubleshooters series.

I give it a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
