Overview

“I’ll always be here for you, right by your side. You can live your life, and I’ll keep watch,” whispered Tamani, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

“Even if it means risking everything.”

Laurel thought she had left the faerie world behind, choosing to be with David instead of Tamani. However, when a new threat emerges, Laurel realizes that the peace she had found was only temporary.

With nowhere else to turn, Laurel must once again rely on Tamani’s protection and guidance to keep Avalon safe. The danger is unlike anything they have ever faced before, and it will take all their strength to overcome it.

Will Laurel be able to trust Tamani and her own heart to survive this new battle?

Editoral Review

Illusions by Aprilynne Pike is a young adult novel that explores the themes of identity, love, and family. Pike is an American author who has written several young adult novels, including the Wings series, which features a young girl who discovers that she is a faerie.

Illusions was first published on May 3, 2011, and has since gained a significant following among young adult readers.

The novel follows the story of a teenage girl named Laurel, who discovers that she is not entirely human. As she tries to come to terms with this newfound knowledge, she struggles to balance her human life with her faerie heritage.

Along the way, she meets a cast of characters, including her faerie mentor, Tamani, and her best friend, David. As she navigates the challenges of being a faerie, Laurel also faces conflicts with her family and her love life.

Pike’s writing style is engaging and easy to read, making the novel accessible to younger readers. She does an excellent job of creating a vivid and imaginative world that is both magical and believable.

The characters are well-developed and relatable, and the plot moves at a steady pace, keeping the reader engaged throughout.

One of the strengths of the novel is its exploration of the theme of identity. Pike does an excellent job of portraying Laurel’s struggles with her faerie heritage and her human life.

The novel also explores the theme of love in a thoughtful and nuanced way, highlighting the complexities of romantic relationships.

However, one weakness of the novel is its reliance on cliches and predictable plot twists. Some of the conflicts and resolutions feel formulaic, and the novel could have benefited from more originality and surprises.

Overall, Illusions is an enjoyable read that will appeal to young adult readers. While it has its flaws, Pike’s writing style and exploration of themes make it a worthwhile addition to the genre.

Fans of the Wings series and other young adult fantasy novels will likely enjoy this book.
