About the Author

Douglas Noël Adams, a talented English author, musician, and comic radio dramatist, gained immense popularity for his works, especially the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. He began this series on the radio and later transformed it into a “trilogy” of five books that sold over fifteen million copies during his lifetime.

The series was also adapted into a television series, comic book series, a computer game, and a feature film. Adams’ fans affectionately called him Bop Ad or “DNA” after his illegible signature.

Adams also wrote three stories for the science fiction television series Doctor Who and served as Script Editor during the seventeenth season. His other notable works include the Dirk Gently novels, two Liff books, and the computer game.

He was also an environmental activist and a lover of technology gadgets, fast cars, and cameras.

Towards the end of his life, he was highly sought-after for his lectures on various topics, including technology and the environment. After his death, a posthumous collection of his essays and other materials, including an incomplete novel, was published in 2002.

Editoral Review

Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams is a non-fiction book that chronicles the author’s travels to remote locations to document and raise awareness about endangered species. Adams is known for his humorous and insightful writing style, which he brings to this unique and important topic.

The book’s plot follows Adams and his co-author, Mark Carwardine, as they travel to various locations around the world to find and document rare and often endangered animals. Along the way, they encounter a host of unique characters, both human and animal.

Adams is a master at weaving humor into his storytelling, and Last Chance to See is no exception. Despite the serious subject matter, the book is filled with wit and charm, making it an enjoyable read for anyone interested in animals, travel, or environmental issues.

One of the strengths of Last Chance to See is its ability to make readers care about the animals and the environments they live in. Adams’ writing is infused with a sense of empathy and urgency, urging the reader to take action to protect these precious creatures before it’s too late.

Another strength of the book is its nuanced portrayal of the people and cultures Adams encounters on his travels. He does not shy away from depicting the complexities and challenges that come with conservation efforts in different parts of the world.

However, one potential limitation of the book is that it may not offer enough detail for readers looking for more comprehensive information about specific endangered species. Additionally, some readers may find the humor distracting from the seriousness of the topic at hand.

Overall, Last Chance to See is a compelling and informative read that sheds light on the urgent need to protect species on the brink of extinction. Adams’ writing is both witty and heartfelt, making the book a standout in the genre of nature writing.

I would highly recommend Last Chance to See to anyone interested in environmental issues or animal rights. It’s a book that will leave readers both entertained and enlightened, and one that may inspire them to take action to protect the planet’s most vulnerable creatures.

Therefore, I rate this book with a 4.5 out of 5.
