About the Author

Obert Skye has always had a love for books, reading his first at just two years old. His passion for storytelling began at the age of four when he wrote his first story.

However, his childhood was not without its dangers as he was almost trampled by a herd of water buffalo at just six years old. Growing up, Obert spent some time on the Isle of Skye, indulging in his sweet tooth as a candy-taster.

A few years ago, Obert Skye stumbled upon the existence of Foo, which he now shares through his fictional book series. While publishing his work as fiction was not his first choice, he is satisfied that the “history” of Foo is being told.

In his free time, Obert enjoys collecting old maps, playing water polo, and going on roller coasters.

Editoral Review

Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo by Obert Skye is an enchanting foray into the realm of young adult fantasy. The novel was first published on April 1, 2005, and was followed by several sequels.

Obert Skye is known for writing middle-grade novels and has authored several popular series. In Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo, he imbues his signature lightheartedness and humor, along with elements of action, adventure, and fantasy.

The novel follows the life of thirteen-year-old Leven Thumps, who lives in a world parallel to our own. Leven discovers that he possesses special powers that can help him save both his world and the Land of Foo.

Foo is a mythical land that exists in parallel to our world, and it is under threat from the evil dictator, Sabine, who wants to rule the world and control everyone’s minds. Leven is aided in his quest by Winter Frore, a magical girl, and Geth, a minuscule toothpick, among other characters.

Together, they must navigate through the Gateway, a portal that provides access to the Land of Foo, and undertake several challenges to overcome Sabine and save both worlds. Skye’s writing is imaginative, and his world-building skills are commendable.

He creates a universe that is both complex and detailed, with different creatures, cultures, and histories. The author’s descriptions of the settings and characters are vivid, and the reader can easily picture in their mind’s eye, the action as it unfolds.

The character development in Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo is well-paced, and each character has a unique personality that adds to the book’s charm. Leven, in particular, is a relatable protagonist who undergoes a journey of self-discovery.

One of the book’s strengths is its emphasis on the importance of family and friendship. The relationships between the characters are realistic and heartwarming, adding a layer of depth to the story.

However, the pacing of the book may be a bit slow for some readers. The buildup to the climax takes time, and the action scenes are not as frequent as one would expect in a young adult fantasy novel.

Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo is a delightful read, and while it may not be a classic in the fantasy genre, it is an enjoyable addition to the genre. Its themes of family, friendship, and self-discovery make it an excellent choice for young adult readers.

Overall, Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo earns a rating of four out of five stars. While it may not be a perfect novel, it is well written, and the author’s imagination and creativity shine through.

It is a book that is sure to delight young adult readers who enjoy the fantasy genre.
