Editoral Review

Adele Parks’ latest novel, Lies, Lies, Lies, is a gripping and suspenseful domestic thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Parks, a renowned British author of women’s fiction, has ventured into darker territory with this book, and the result is a disturbing yet compelling read that showcases her versatility as a writer.

The story is told from the perspectives of three main characters: Daisy, a successful physiotherapist; Simon, her charming, alcoholic husband; and Millie, their daughter, who is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Daisy and Simon’s marriage is already on shaky ground due to Simon’s addiction and infidelity, but when a shocking incident occurs, their lives spiral out of control, and the lies they tell each other and themselves threaten to destroy their family.

Parks excels at creating flawed and relatable characters, and the portrayal of Daisy, Simon, and Millie is no exception. The reader is drawn into their world, sympathizing with their struggles and rooting for them to overcome their challenges.

The pacing of the plot is fast-paced, with plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the end. What elevates Parks’ writing in Lies, Lies, Lies, is her ability to address serious issues such as addiction, mental illness, and abuse without being heavy-handed or preachy.

The story is set in modern-day England, but the themes are universal and will resonate with readers from all cultures and backgrounds. There are a few flaws with the book, mainly in some of the plot contrivances that strain credulity and feel too convenient.

Some of the supporting characters are also underdeveloped and serve only to move the plot forward. However, these criticisms are minor, and overall, Lies, Lies, Lies, is a well-crafted and engaging thriller that will satisfy fans of the genre.

Parks’ writing is crisp and evocative, and her insights into the complexities of human relationships are timely and relevant. Overall the book is an amazing domestic thriller and I recommend it to those who love thrillers with a domestic backdrop.
