Editoral Review

More Than Jamie Baker is a young adult novel written by Kelly Oram and published in 2013. The book belongs to the science fiction and fantasy genre, with a focus on romance and teenage angst.

Set in Ames, Iowa, the book tells the story of Jamie Baker, a high school student who has superhuman abilities, including strength, speed, and invulnerability. Jamie’s life is turned upside down when Ryan Miller, a new student who is also gifted with superpowers, enters her life.

Ryan challenges Jamie’s perceptions of her identity, her abilities, and her future. Together, they must navigate their powers, their relationships, and their place in the society that fears them.

Kelly Oram’s writing style is immersive and engaging, with a clear and concise narrative that drives the story forward. The characters are well-developed, with distinct personalities, strengths, and weaknesses.

Jamie, in particular, is a relatable and admirable protagonist, whose struggles and triumphs resonate with the reader. The novel explores themes of identity, acceptance, and self-discovery, making it a poignant and relevant read for young adults today.

Oram incorporates diverse subplots and varied characters, creating a multifaceted and nuanced story that keeps the reader invested from start to finish. However, the pacing of the book can feel sluggish at times, with some sections feeling repetitive or predictable.

Additionally, some of the minor characters could have been more fleshed out, making them feel more integral to the story. Despite these minor shortcomings, More Than Jamie Baker is a captivating and thought-provoking novel that will appeal to readers who love science fiction, romance, and young adult fiction.

It is a refreshing and well-crafted addition to the genre, and Kelly Oram is a promising author with much to offer. Overall, I would highly recommend More Than Jamie Baker to readers who are looking for a compelling and entertaining book that tackles important issues with sensitivity and depth.

I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
