Editoral Review

Outcast by Cheryl Brooks is a captivating novel that captures the reader’s attention from the first chapter. First published on June 1, 2009, the book tells the story of a young woman named Tisana, who is an outcast in a society where magic is feared and reviled.

The genre of the novel falls in the fantasy and romance category. Cheryl Brooks, the author, is best known for her work in the Cat Star Chronicles series.

Set in a world where those who have magical abilities are ostracized and often hunted, Outcast follows the journey of Tisana as she struggles to find a place in society. Tisana is a strong character who is determined to prove her worth despite the obstacles that she faces.

The story is set in a fantastical world filled with magic and mystery, and Cheryl Brooks does an excellent job of painting a vivid picture of the setting without overwhelming the reader with exposition. The plot of the book centers around Tisana’s journey to discover the truth about her magical abilities and the fate of her parents.

Along the way, she meets a cast of characters, including a handsome prince who is also an outcast and a group of rebels fighting against the oppressive government. Cheryl Brooks does an excellent job of developing each character and making them feel unique and authentic.

Additionally, the pacing of the novel is well-balanced, with enough action and plot twists to keep the reader engaged without feeling rushed. One of the strengths of Outcast is Cheryl Brooks’ ability to weave larger themes into the story.

The novel explores societal issues such as discrimination and oppression, making it particularly relevant in today’s world. The magic system in the book is also well-developed and adds depth to the story.

However, one of the weaknesses of the book is that some of the plot points feel predictable and not particularly original. Additionally, while the romance between Tisana and the prince is well-written, it does feel rushed at times.

Overall, Outcast is a well-written and engaging novel that should appeal to fans of both fantasy and romance. Cheryl Brooks has crafted a world that is both believable and intriguing, with characters that are likable and relatable.

Despite its flaws, it is an excellent addition to the genre and should not be missed. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fantasy novel that is both exciting and accessible.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
