Editoral Review

In Shalini Boland’s debut novel, Outside, readers are introduced to a world that is both familiar and unsettlingly different. This dystopian thriller takes place in a future where those who disobey the rules are banished to the outside world, a place where survival is anything but guaranteed.

Boland weaves a tale of survival and betrayal that will have readers both on the edge of their seats and questioning the current state of the world. Boland is a British author who has written several young adult novels, including the Marchwood Vampire Series and the Perfectly Imperfect series.

Her skills as a skilled storyteller are on display in Outside. Boland creates a vivid and terrifying world in which readers can’t help but be drawn in.

The novel begins with Riley, a young girl who is sent to the outside world to serve out her punishment for a crime she didn’t commit. In this harsh landscape, Riley must learn to fend for herself among dangerous creatures and other exiles.

Along the way, she befriends a group of other exiles who are equally desperate to survive. Together, they navigate the treacherous landscape of the outside world while trying to uncover the truth about Riley’s exile.

The themes of rebellion and survival are central to this novel. The outside world is a harsh and unforgiving place, where those who do not conform to society’s rules are cast out.

Boland does an excellent job of exploring the complexities of this dystopian society and the struggles of those who are forced to live outside of it. One weakness of the book is the lack of character development in some of the minor characters.

While the main characters are well-written and complex, some of the minor characters fall flat and don’t add much to the story. Overall, Outside is a thrilling and thought-provoking read.

Boland’s writing is crisp and engaging, and her world-building skills are on full display. While the book is aimed at young adults, readers of all ages will be drawn in by the fast-paced plot and engaging characters.

For fans of dystopian novels such as The Hunger Games and Divergent, Outside is a must-read. It offers a fresh take on the genre while still delivering all the action and intrigue that readers have come to expect.

Boland’s debut novel is a standout, and she is a writer to watch in the coming years. Rating: 4/5 stars.

Boland’s strong writing, engaging characters, and thought-provoking themes make Outside a must-read for fans of the dystopian genre.
