About the Author

Agatha Christie, one of the most famous authors in history, wrote 66 crime novels, fourteen plays, and six romance novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott. She was also occasionally published under the name Agatha Christie Mallowan.

Her books have sold over a billion copies in English and in translation, making her the best-selling author of all time. According to Index Translationum, she is the most-translated individual author, with her works translated into at least 103 languages.

Christie created two of the most enduring figures in crime literature, Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She also authored , the longest-running play in modern theatre history.

Born in Torquay, Devon, England, Christie was the youngest of three children. She served in a hospital during World War I before marrying and starting a family in London.

During the war, she worked as a nurse and later in a hospital pharmacy, which influenced her writing as many of the murders in her books involved poison. She also worked as a pharmacy assistant during World War II, gaining knowledge of poisons that she would use in her novels.

Christie’s first novel, , was published in 1920. During her first marriage, she published six novels, a collection of short stories, and several stories in magazines.

In 1926, her husband revealed that he was in love with another woman and wanted a divorce. Following a quarrel, Christie disappeared from her home, causing a massive manhunt.

She was found eleven days later.

In 1930, Christie married archaeologist Max Mallowan and frequently used their travels together as settings for her novels. She also used locations such as Torquay and Abney Hall in Cheshire for her stories.

To honor her literary works, Christie was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1956 and became the President of the Detection Club the following year.

Editoral Review

Partners in Crime is a gripping detective novel written by Agatha Christie, first published on June 7, 1929. Agatha Christie was a world-renowned English crime novelist, short story writer, and playwright who is considered one of the most notable authors in the Golden Age of detective fiction.

Christie’s genre usually revolves around the investigation of criminal acts, espionage, and mysteries, often overshadowed by intricate plots with unexpected twists. Partners in Crime is a collection of short stories that revolve around Tommy and Tuppence Beresford, a charming married couple who are looking for adventure in post-World War I London.

The Beresfords assume different identities and solve mysteries that come their way, from thefts to assassinations, in a delightful and witty manner, keeping the readers on the edge of their seats. The stories feature the perfect balance of intricate plots, suspense, humor, and the Beresfords’ romance, making them a joy to read.

Christie’s remarkable writing and attention to detail create a vivid and engaging setting, with characters that come to life. Partners in Crime has significant historical and cultural significance, as it was written during the peak of the Golden Age of detective fiction.

It also reflects the cultural and social landscape of the time, with references to the political situation in Great Britain and the changing role of women in society. Christie’s attention to detail and character development make Partners in Crime an outstanding work of detective fiction.

The pacing of the stories is perfect, with twists and turns that keep the readers guessing until the end. Additionally, she has a remarkable skill in creating relatable and likable characters that stick to the readers’ hearts.

However, some may criticize Partners in Crime for being light and entertaining in a way that does not take itself too seriously. It may lack the depth and complexity of some of Agatha Christie’s other works, such as And Then There Were None, which is a more serious and profound work of literature.

Overall, Partners in Crime is an exceptional work by a master of the detective fiction genre. It is a must-read for mystery lovers, Agatha Christie’s fans, and anyone who enjoys a witty and engaging storyline with well-developed characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a light yet entertaining read that can keep them engaged throughout. Therefore, I would rate Partners in Crime an eight out of ten.
