Editoral Review

Sharon Lee’s Plan B is an emotional rollercoaster that serves as a powerful reminder that life doesn’t always go according to plan. This novel, first published in 1999, highlights the universal themes of love, loss, and the many ways that people cope with adversity.

Lee’s writing is poignant and introspective, and her characters are complex and well-developed. Plan B is a must-read for anyone who has ever had to navigate life’s unexpected twists and turns.

Set in the bustling city of Chicago, Plan B follows the story of three unlikely friends – Evie, Benny, and Tony. Evie, a nurse, is trying to come to terms with a recent breakup while Benny, a streetwise cab driver, is dealing with his own personal demons.

Tony, a wealthy businessman, is struggling to balance his personal and professional life. As their lives collide, Lee skillfully illustrates how the choices they make can have far-reaching consequences.

One of the strengths of Plan B is Lee’s ability to weave together different character arcs with ease. Through Evie, Benny, and Tony’s stories, readers get a glimpse into the struggles faced by people from different walks of life.

The novel also deals with themes such as family dynamics, addiction, and mental health, all of which are handled sensitively and with nuance. While Plan B was first published over two decades ago, its themes and messages are still relevant today.

Lee does an excellent job of showing how people adapt and evolve in response to adversity, and this message is particularly important in the current global climate. Despite some minor pacing issues, Plan B is a compelling read that will leave a lasting impact on its readers.

Overall, Plan B is a beautifully written novel that offers a fresh perspective on life’s unexpected twists and turns. It is a heart-wrenching but ultimately hopeful story that will make readers reflect on their own lives.

Fans of contemporary literature and emotional dramas will find this novel to be an engaging read. Sharon Lee’s Plan B is a must-read, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a poignant and introspective story.

Washington Post gives it a 4/5 rating.
