About the Author

As an indie author of fantasy and science fiction, I spend most of my time writing. However, when I’m not working on my latest manuscript, I love taking my dogs on outdoor adventures.

We often explore hiking trails together, and I find it to be a great way to unwind and recharge my creativity.

Editoral Review

Raptor by Lindsay Buroker: A Fast-paced Thriller Filled with Intrigue and Adventure

Lindsay Buroker, the USA Today bestselling author, has given her readers another dose of heart-pumping, action-packed adventure in her novel, Raptor. Published in 2015, the book is the first installment in her “Dragon Blood” series, a blend of steampunk and fantasy genres.

With a perfect combination of intrigue, humor, and enchanting world building, this novel is a treat for anyone who loves fast-paced, high-octane stories. Set in a world where magic and technology coexist, the story follows the life of one of the deadliest mercenaries in the world, Sardelle Terushan.

Sardelle is a pilot by profession, and her life takes a dramatic turn when she discovers a mysterious dagger that has the power to kill dragons. She is haunted by the memory of a dragon attack that killed her comrades and left her alone to face life’s uncertainties.

She has no memory of what happened to her at the time, but the mysterious forces give her a chance to avenge her fallen comrades and destroy the dragons that have been terrorizing humanity. With the help of her loyal team, a soldier named Jaxi, and a spy named Cas, Sardelle embarks on a dangerous mission to smuggle the dagger through enemy lines and destroy the dragons.

But their mission is hampered when they encounter their longtime enemy, Colonel Therrik, who has a secret agenda of his own. As the team races against time to complete their mission, they face insurmountable obstacles that test their courage, loyalty, and resolve.

Buroker’s writing is excellent, and her characters are well-defined, complex, and relatable. Sardelle emerges as a strong, independent, and intelligent woman, who can hold her own in any situation.

Her relationship with Jaxi is one of the highlights of the book. They develop a beautiful bond based on mutual respect and trust.

The pacing of the story is excellent, with new twists and turns emerging at every turn. Despite these strengths, the book does have a few flaws.

The plot is somewhat predictable, and the world-building can be a bit confusing at times. The story does tend to lose some of its momentum in the middle, with certain sections feeling slow and repetitive.

However, these criticisms are minor, and the overall quality of the book is superb. The themes of the story are timeless, and the characters are well-developed and memorable.

The book is a perfect fit for anyone looking for a thrilling and fast-paced story. In conclusion, Lindsay Buroker’s Raptor is a captivating, well-crafted novel that awards its readers with exceptional writing and unforgettable characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good adventure, as it’s a perfect blend of fantasy and steampunk. Although it’s not without its faults, the book is an enjoyable and entertaining read, and I give it a solid rating of four out of five stars.
