Overview

The world of the police is often a distant one, seen only through the media. But when a young woman is found brutally murdered in her London home, DI Kate Young is thrust into the case.

As she delves deeper into the victim’s life, Kate realizes that this investigation is far from routine. Meanwhile, journalist Jo Ellis is determined to uncover the truth behind the murder, but her relentless pursuit of the story could lead her down a dangerous path.

As the case unfolds, both women will find that the line between fact and fiction is often blurred, and that the truth can be more elusive than they ever imagined.

Editoral Review

Tim Stevens’ Ratcatcher is a gripping crime thriller that explores the underbelly of London’s criminal underworld with masterful detail and precision. Stevens is a seasoned author of crime fiction, and his latest novel is a testament to his skill in crafting a compelling narrative and creating vivid characters that readers will not soon forget.

Set in present-day London, Ratcatcher follows the story of a hardened detective named Tom Nolan as he investigates a series of brutal murders committed by a mysterious killer known only as the ‘Ratcatcher’. Nolan is a flawed character, haunted by his past and struggling to come to terms with his present.

However, despite his personal demons, he is determined to catch the Ratcatcher and bring him to justice. The plot of Ratcatcher is both intricate and fast-paced, with plenty of twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Stevens weaves together multiple storylines and characters with ease, creating a rich and complex world that is both gritty and realistic. The setting of London, with its sprawling cityscapes and diverse neighborhoods, is also a character in itself, providing a vivid backdrop for the story.

Stevens’ writing is taut and atmospheric, creating a sense of suspense and tension that is palpable throughout the book. His prose is also imbued with a deep empathy for his characters, making them feel real and fully realized.

The themes of justice, redemption, and morality are explored with nuance and sensitivity, giving the book a depth and resonance that is often lacking in the crime genre. Despite its many strengths, there are a few limitations to Ratcatcher.

The pacing can be uneven at times, with some sections of the book feeling slow and others feeling rushed. Additionally, some of the characters feel underdeveloped, with their motivations and backstories remaining somewhat opaque.

Overall, however, Ratcatcher is a standout crime novel that will appeal to fans of the genre and newcomers alike. It is a gripping, well-crafted story that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, and Stevens is a writer to watch.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thrilling, immersive reading experience. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
