Editoral Review

Rebel by Amy Tintera is a dystopian young adult novel that was first published on May 13, 2014. The book is a sequel to Tintera’s debut novel, Reboot, and continues the story of Wren and Callum, two Reboots – undead soldiers who were brought back to life after dying from a virus that swept across the United States.

Set in a future where society is divided into two groups – the humans and the Reboots – Rebel explores themes of identity, societal norms, loyalty, and rebellion. The book is a fast-paced adventure that is full of action, suspense, and romance.

The story picks up after the events of Reboot, where Wren and Callum have escaped from the HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation) and are now living in the Walled City. Wren, who was once a cold and emotionless Reboot, is now starting to feel more human emotions and is questioning the way the Reboots are treated by society.

Callum, on the other hand, is struggling to adjust to life outside of HARC and is dealing with his own personal demons. As the story progresses, Wren and Callum become embroiled in a rebellion against HARC, with the help of a group of humans and Reboots who have also suffered under HARC’s regime.

The stakes are high, and the action is non-stop as the rebels try to take down HARC and create a better world for themselves. One of the strengths of Rebel is the character development.

Tintera does an excellent job of showing the growth of Wren and Callum, as well as the supporting characters. The relationship between Wren and Callum is also well-developed and adds an emotional depth to the story.

The pacing of the book is also well-done, with the action scenes interspersed with quieter moments that allow the reader to get to know the characters better. The world-building is also solid, and Tintera does a fantastic job of creating a believable dystopian society.

However, one of the weaknesses of the book is that it is very similar to other dystopian young adult novels. While Rebel has its unique elements, such as the Reboots and the Walled City, it can feel formulaic at times.

Overall, Rebel is a solid young adult dystopian novel that will appeal to fans of the genre. It has well-developed characters, a fast-paced plot, and a compelling world.

While it may not be the most original book in the genre, it is still an enjoyable read. Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
