When Judith and Peregrine Taverner travel to London to meet their guardian, they are surprised to find that Lord Julian St. John Audley is not the elderly gentleman they expected, but a young and insufferably arrogant dandy. Lord Worth, as he is known, doesn’t want the responsibility of being their guardian any more than they want him.

But when Judith and Peregrine enter the highest social circles, Lord Worth can’t help but become entangled in their adventures. Judith is a beautiful young lady who has captured the attention of all of London society.

But as an heiress to a great fortune, she must navigate the difference between a man’s love and a man’s greed. Will she be able to resist the charms of her guardian, the charming and handsome Lord Worth, or will she succumb to his advances and become prey to her own desires?

About the Author

Georgette Heyer was an accomplished author of historical romance and detective fiction. She began her writing career in 1921 by turning a story she had written for her younger brother into a novel titled The Black Moth.

In 1925, Georgette married George Ronald Rougier, who was a mining engineer and later became a barrister. George often provided basic plot outlines for her thrillers.

From 1932 onwards, Heyer published one romance novel and one thriller each year.

Heyer was a very private person and never relied on publicity to become a best-selling author. She never made public appearances, gave interviews, and only responded to fan letters that made an interesting historical point.

She wrote one novel under the pseudonym Stella Martin.

Georgette’s Georgian and Regencies romances were inspired by the era itself. While some critics found her novels to be overly detailed, others considered it to be Heyer’s greatest asset.

Today, Georgette Heyer is still a much-loved author renowned for establishing both the historical romance genre and its subgenre Regency romance.

Editoral Review

Regency Buck by Georgette Heyer is a classic historical romance novel that was first published on January 1, 1935. Heyer is known for her mastery of the Regency romance genre, and this book is a perfect example of her talent.

The novel is set in the Regency period in England, which was a time of great social and political change. Heyer’s writing style is characterized by her attention to historical detail, witty dialogue, and engaging characters.

The story follows the adventures of Judith Taverner, a spirited young woman who is determined to make her way in the world. She is accompanied by her brother, Peregrine, who is equally determined to enjoy the pleasures of life.

Together, they journey to London and become embroiled in a web of intrigue and romance. Along the way, they meet a cast of colorful characters, including the dashing Lord Worth, who becomes Judith’s love interest.

Heyer’s writing is a joy to read, and she captures the Regency period with precision and flair. Her characters are well-drawn and multi-dimensional, with quirks and flaws that make them feel real.

The setting is also beautifully described, with vivid descriptions of the London streets, the countryside, and the decadent society of the time.

The novel is not without its flaws, however. The plot can be somewhat predictable at times, and some of the characters feel underdeveloped.

Additionally, the novel can be slow-paced at times, which may not appeal to readers who prefer faster-paced stories.

Despite these limitations, Regency Buck is a classic of the Regency romance genre, and fans of historical fiction will find much to love in this book. Heyer’s writing is rich and engaging, and her characters are charming and memorable.

The book also has historical and cultural significance, as it provides a window into the Regency period and the social customs of the time.

Overall, Regency Buck is a must-read for fans of historical romance and anyone who enjoys a well-crafted story. Heyer’s writing is timeless, and her characters are as engaging today as they were when the book was first published.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a delightful escape into another time and place. I give Regency Buck a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
