About the Author

To be perfectly honest, I’m not the most active person in the world. In fact, I’m probably the laziest person you’ll ever meet.

It’s taken me quite a while to finally motivate myself to get online and join the rest of the world.

I’m the author of the HIVE book series, which some of you may have read and enjoyed. Or maybe you didn’t enjoy it at all.

Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to read it.

I’m extremely lucky to live with two of the most gorgeous women on the planet. And yes, I’m hoping that by saying that, they’ll forgive me for any silly mistakes I make this month.

I’ve never really had a proper job. I did work on video games for a bit, but let’s just say that wasn’t the ideal situation for a lazy guy like me.

Editoral Review

Mark Walden’s “Rogue” is the second book in his “H.I.V.E.” series, a wildly popular middle-grade series that blends action, adventure, and espionage. Walden’s background in television writing is evident in his tightly plotted and fast-paced writing style, which is perfect for readers who love a good page-turner.

The series follows the adventures of young students at the Higher Institute of Villainous Education (H.I.V.E.), a school that trains its students to become high-powered villains. In “Rogue,” the story focuses on Otto Malpense, the main character of the series, as he and his loyal friends set out on a dangerous mission to stop a rogue agent from destroying the school and everything it stands for.

The book is full of action, suspense, humor, and even a bit of romance. Walden’s mastery of pacing is evident in the way he keeps the story moving and leaves readers on the edge of their seats.

The character development is also impressive, as each character has their own quirks, motivations, and backstories that make them feel like real people. One of the strengths of the book is its intricate world-building.

Walden does a fantastic job of creating a detailed and believable world of villains, complete with its own rules, technologies, and language. This adds a layer of depth and richness to the story that makes it even more engaging.

Another strength of the book is its use of humor. Walden balances the high-stakes action with clever and witty dialogue that will have readers laughing out loud.

This humor also helps to humanize the characters and create a more lighthearted tone that makes the darker moments in the book even more impactful. However, the book does have some limitations.

Some readers may find the plot predictable, as it follows many of the tropes of the action-adventure genre. The book also lacks diversity, as nearly all of the characters are white and from privileged backgrounds.

Overall, “Rogue” is a fantastic addition to the “H.I.V.E.” series and a must-read for young readers who love action, adventure, and espionage. The book provides a thrilling ride that will leave readers eager to read more about Otto and his friends.

The Washington Post gives “Rogue” 4 out of 5 stars.
