About the Author

Meet Mira Grant, also known as Seanan McGuire. She grew up in Northern California with a passion for horror movies, terrifying viruses, and the inevitable threat of the living dead.

During her college days, she was voted as the person “Most Likely to Summon Something Horrible in the Cornfield”. She was also a founding member of the Horror Movie Sleep-Away Survival Camp, where she remains the undefeated record holder for surviving the Swamp Cannibals scenario.

Mira currently resides in a dilapidated farmhouse with an array of cats, horror movies, comics, and books about gruesome diseases. Apart from writing, she spends her time traveling, auditing college virology courses, and watching an excessive amount of horror movies.

Her preferred vacation destinations are Seattle, London, and a gigantic haunted corn maze located just outside Huntsville in Alabama.

Mira takes her safety seriously and suggests that you do the same. She even sleeps with a machete under her bed, just in case.

Editoral Review

Rolling in the Deep, a riveting horror novella by Mira Grant, takes readers on a thrilling journey to the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Grant, who is widely known for her bestselling Newsflesh series, proves that her literary expertise extends beyond zombie apocalypses.

The story centers around a group of documentary filmmakers who embark on a mission to film a mockumentary about mermaids. However, what starts as a seemingly harmless underwater exploration turns into a fight for survival when they encounter the deadliest creatures the sea has to offer.

Grant’s impeccable storytelling skills are on full display in Rolling in the Deep. The vivid imagery and descriptive language used throughout the book transports readers to the depths of the ocean, making it feel like they’re experiencing the horror firsthand.

The characters, both human and mermaid, are dynamic and well-developed, making readers care about their fates. The pacing of the story is spot-on, with suspenseful buildup and heart-pounding action scenes that keep readers on the edge of their seats.

While the horror genre may seem like a niche category, Rolling in the Deep tackles themes that are relevant to our current society, such as the consequences of exploiting natural resources and the dangers of sensationalizing scientific studies for ratings and profit. The novella is not without its flaws, however.

Some readers may find the gory scenes too graphic, and the ending may leave some unsatisfied. However, these minor issues do not detract from the overall quality of the book.

Overall, Rolling in the Deep is a must-read for fans of horror and suspense, as well as anyone who loves a good adventure story. Grant’s writing is masterful, and her ability to weave horror and social commentary together seamlessly is commendable.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thrilling and thought-provoking read. I give Rolling in the Deep a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
