Overview

Ryder Jensen’s childhood was far from ordinary. He fled from home at fifteen, escaping abusive parents who never cared for him.

He has no siblings, no pets, and no one to call family except his fellow runaway friends who shared his abandoned house. After years of being on the run, he thought he had found a place to call home.

But after a heartbreaking betrayal, he’s hitting the road again. This time, he’s on a mission to find his long lost sister.

He’s driving cross-country in his old pickup truck. The same truck that once served as his safe haven.

Little did he know that one unexpected encounter would change his life forever. When his truck breaks down in a small town, he meets Harper Hayes.

They both try to ignore the strong attraction between them, but fate has other plans. As they embark on a journey to find Ryder’s sister, they realize that they might have found something even more precious than they were looking for.

But will their pasts catch up with them and destroy everything they’ve built?

Editoral Review

Devney Perrys latest novel, Runaway Road, is a must-read for fans of contemporary romance. This book is a perfect example of Perrys exceptional writing, character development, and emotional depth.

The novel tells the story of Londyn McCormack, a talented publicist in Hollywood who is trying to escape her problematic family and forget her painful past. She sets off on a road trip across the country in her vintage camper, hoping to find peace and a new way of life.

Along the way, she meets the charming and handsome Jasper Ellis, a former country music star who has become disillusioned with fame and is also searching for a fresh start. The chemistry between Londyn and Jasper is palpable from the beginning, and Perry deftly weaves in themes of trust, forgiveness, and acceptance as their relationship develops.

What could have been a predictable love story turns out to be a nuanced and complex exploration of two flawed, relatable characters who find solace in each other. Perrys writing style is immersive and evocative, transporting the reader to the open roads, small towns, and big skies of America.

The pacing is perfect, with just the right balance of introspective moments and action, and the plot is well-structured, with enough surprises and twists to keep the reader engaged. One of the strengths of the book is the attention to detail in the portrayal of the supporting characters, who are also navigating their own journeys, and the vivid descriptions of the settings, which add depth to the story.

The conflicts that arise between Londyn and Jasper are realistic and grounded, and the resolution feels earned and satisfying. Runaway Road is not without a few flaws, however.

There are moments when Perrys writing can be a bit too melodramatic, and some of the plot points feel contrived. Additionally, while the book touches on important themes, it could have delved deeper into issues of mental health, addiction, and trauma.

Overall, Runaway Road is a delightful read that will appeal to anyone who loves a good romance with complex characters, stunning settings, and well-crafted writing. Fans of Devney Perrys previous work will not be disappointed, and new readers will be captivated by this compelling and heartfelt story.

Rating: 4/5 stars.
