In M.J. Rose’s Seduction, Jac L’Etoile, a mythologist, arrives on the Isle of Jersey to uncover the island’s Celtic roots. There, she meets Theo Gaspard, a troubled man who has a different agenda.

Gaspard believes that Jac can help him uncover Victor Hugo’s lost conversations with the Shadow of the Sepulcher. Hugo claimed to have communicated with famous historical figures such as Jesus, Dante, and even the Devil himself during hundreds of séances.

Although Hugo’s transcriptions of these conversations have all been published, Gaspard is convinced that there is more to discover. As Jac delves deeper into the mystery, she finds herself embroiled in a suspenseful ghost story that spans centuries.

The novel was first published on May 7, 2013, and since then, it has become a significant piece of literature that can be enjoyed by readers of various ages. Seduction is a historical fiction novel that perfectly blends mystery and romance.

It tells the story of Jac L’Etoile, who returns to her hometown to investigate her brother’s tragic death. During her stay, Jac discovers several secrets about her family’s past, including a shocking revelation about a famous 19th century writer, Victor Hugo.

The novel is set in both the past and present, with Victor Hugo being a significant figure in both timelines. The story’s setting is in Paris, and Rose’s ability to describe the city’s beauty is quite admirable.

The characters are well developed and add depth to the story’s plot. Jac is an intriguing character that will keep you guessing throughout the entire book.

She is strong and resilient, yet you can feel her vulnerability as she tries to unravel the mystery that surrounds her brother’s death. The themes in the book are rich and varied, ranging from love, lust, and betrayal to justice, truth, and family.

Seduction also highlights the struggles of women, both in the past and present, as they seek to find their place in society. Rose’s ability to combine these themes is seamless and makes for a fantastic and thought-provoking read.

However, the book’s weaknesses are that some readers might find the storyline slow and a bit verbose in certain areas. Additionally, the romance aspect of the plot could have been stronger to add more depth to the story.

Overall, Seduction is an excellent book that will appeal to readers who enjoy historical fiction, romance, and mystery. It is a well-crafted novel that will take readers on an emotional journey, leaving them yearning for more.

The book is a testament to Rose’s talent and prowess as an author, and fans of her work will not be disappointed. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a thrilling historical fiction novel that is as beautiful as it is captivating.
