This darkly comic debut novel is a suspenseful global thriller with a dash of emotional truth. If you enjoy William Gibson and Chuck Palahniuk, then this book is for you.

About the Author

Lorraine Heath has a passion for love stories that tug at the heartstrings. Her love for emotional movies started in childhood when she watched them with her mother, who taught her that the best films are the ones that make you cry.

Born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England to a Texan father and a British beauty queen mother, Lorraine has a soft spot for both heritages. She combines the two in her writing, which is often described as creating “real people” characters.

After receiving her BA degree in psychology from the University of Texas, Lorraine began writing training manuals and computer code for the IRS. However, she realized that her writing was missing something important: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues.

Romance novels filled that gap, and she’s been writing about them ever since.

Lorraine has written over 60 novels, which have earned her many industry awards, including the coveted RITA® award from the RWA. Her books have also appeared on bestseller lists.

In addition to writing historical and contemporary romance for adults, Lorraine writes historical romance for young adult readers. She also writes popular contemporary, historical, and paranormal romance for teens under the pen names Rachel Hawthorne and Jade Parker.

With her son, she co-writes young adult novels under the name J.A. London.

Editoral Review

She Tempts the Duke by Lorraine Heath is a historical romance novel that was first published on January 31, 2012. The book follows the story of Minerva Dodger, a woman from a lower-class background who dreams of marrying a Duke.

The author, Lorraine Heath, is known for her ability to craft engaging and heart-wrenching romance novels that transport readers to a different time and place. Set in England in the early 1800s, this novel takes readers on a journey into the world of high society, where social class and wealth dictate one’s future.

Minerva, the main character, is a young woman who is determined to marry into the aristocracy despite her humble beginnings. However, she soon finds herself falling for a Duke who is the complete opposite of what she expected.

The book is filled with rich period detail and immersive prose that helps bring the story to life. The setting and atmosphere of the book are meticulously crafted, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the world of Regency-era England.

The themes of social class, love, and sacrifice are explored in-depth, providing a thought-provoking and emotionally engaging reading experience. The pacing of the book is well-balanced, with just the right amount of tension and romance to keep readers engaged throughout.

The character development is also impressive, with both Minerva and the Duke undergoing significant personal growth throughout the course of the story. Their chemistry is undeniable, and readers will find themselves rooting for their relationship as they navigate the challenges of their respective worlds.

One potential downside of the novel is that it follows a fairly typical romance novel formula, with a predictable plot structure and character archetypes. However, the strength of the writing and characters more than make up for any lack of originality.

Overall, She Tempts the Duke is a beautifully crafted romance novel that is well worth reading. Fans of the genre will find much to enjoy here, including rich period detail, engaging characters, and a heartwarming love story.

While the book may not break new ground in terms of its plot or themes, it is a masterclass in romance writing and a testament to Lorraine Heath’s talent as a storyteller. Rating: 4/5
