Editoral Review

In Six Seconds, Rick Mofina delivers a gripping and emotional thriller that explores the powerful role that grief and trauma can play in the human experience. Mofina is a bestselling author of crime fiction and has received critical acclaim for his work, including multiple Arthur Ellis Awards for Excellence in Canadian Crime Writing.

With Six Seconds, Mofina delivers another masterful work that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. The novel follows the story of Sarah Crane, a journalist who is struggling to come to terms with the death of her son, Cody.

One day, while covering a story about a car accident, Sarah witnesses a young girl being pulled from the wreckage, miraculously alive after being trapped in the car for six seconds. As Sarah begins to investigate the accident, she uncovers a conspiracy that threatens to tear apart her community and puts her own life in danger.

Mofina’s writing is taut and precise, driving the plot forward with relentless intensity. He weaves together multiple storylines and perspectives with skill, creating a complex and nuanced portrait of a community in crisis.

Sarah is a compelling protagonist, driven by her grief and her fierce determination to find the truth, even when it puts her in harm’s way. Mofina’s exploration of the psychological toll of trauma is particularly powerful, as he delves into the ways in which individuals can be shaped and haunted by their past experiences.

At times, the plot of Six Seconds strains credibility, particularly towards the end of the novel, in which the conspiracy that Sarah uncovers takes on a somewhat cartoonish quality. However, Mofina’s strengths as a writer ultimately carry the story, as he manages to create a sense of urgency and tension that keeps the reader engaged throughout.

Six Seconds will appeal to fans of crime fiction and psychological thrillers, particularly those interested in stories that deal with themes of trauma and recovery. Mofina’s writing is evocative and deeply emotional, making this a powerful and impactful novel that will stay with readers long after they turn the final page.
