About the Author
Jude Gilliam was born on September 20, 1947 in Fairdale, Kentucky. She grew up with four younger brothers and a big extended family.
After attending Murray State University, she earned a degree in Art. In 1967, Jude tied the knot and took her husband’s last name, White.
However, the couple divorced four years later. Following her divorce, she worked as a 5th-grade teacher for many years.
In 1976, Jude started writing and published her first book under the name Jude Deveraux in 1977. After the success of her first novel, she left her teaching job and went on to become a bestselling author, with 31 books under her belt.
Jude’s most popular book series is the Velvet series, which focuses on the lives of the irresistible men in the Montgomery family. Her earlier works are mostly set in 15th- and 16th-century England, where her fierce and passionate protagonists find themselves in the midst of blood feuds and wars.
Her heroines are equally strong-willed and independent, often portrayed as medieval Scarlett O’Haras. They fight for survival and the preservation of their families.
Jude has also experimented with different genres, with mixed results. Her James River trilogy is set in post-Revolution America, while the Taggerts series moves to 19th-century Colorado.
She manages to create a strong atmosphere for each book, but her characters and dialogue can be predictable.
Jude married Claude White in the past, but they divorced in 1993. Later, she met Mohammed Montassir and had a son named Sam Alexander Montassir in 1997.
Unfortunately, Sam passed away at the age of eight in a tragic motorcycle accident in 2005.
Jude has lived in various countries and states throughout the US. She currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina and also has a home in the medieval city of Badolato, Italy.
While she once stated that historical novels were her forte, she has since delved into contemporary romance and murder mysteries, making her fans excited to see where she will take them next.
Editoral Review
Jude Deveraux’s Someone to Love is a heartwarming and engaging romance novel that explores themes of love, loss, and second chances. Deveraux is a prolific author of romance novels, and Someone to Love is one of her most popular works.
The book was first published on July 17, 2007, and has since garnered a devoted following of readers who appreciate Deveraux’s skillful storytelling and her ability to create compelling characters.
The novel tells the story of Jace Montgomery, a successful businessman who has everything he could ever want, except love. Jace’s parents died when he was young, and he was raised by his cold and distant grandmother, who instilled in him a deep-seated fear of attachment.
When Jace meets the beautiful and free-spirited Jessie Adams, he is immediately drawn to her, but he is afraid to let himself love her. As Jace and Jessie’s relationship deepens, they must confront their own fears and vulnerabilities in order to find true happiness.
Deveraux’s writing is skillful and engaging, and she imbues her characters with depth and complexity. Jace is a fascinating protagonist, and Deveraux does an excellent job of exploring his psychological struggles and emotional turmoil.
Jessie is also a well-drawn character, and her independent spirit and fierce determination make her a compelling foil to Jace’s more reserved personality.
One of the book’s strengths is its vivid setting. Deveraux creates a rich and detailed world for her characters, and the small town of Edilean, Virginia, where the novel takes place, is described in loving detail.
The historical and cultural significance of the book is also noteworthy, as it explores issues of gender roles, family, and societal expectations.
However, the book is not without its flaws. Some readers may find the plot predictable or formulaic, and the characters can at times feel like caricatures.
Additionally, the pacing can be slow at times, and the book may drag in certain sections.
Despite these limitations, Someone to Love is a charming and engaging romance novel that will appeal to fans of the genre. Deveraux’s writing is superb, and her exploration of love and loss is both poignant and insightful.
The book is a must-read for anyone who loves a good romance story.
Overall, I would give Someone to Love by Jude Deveraux a rating of four out of five stars. The book is a well-crafted and engaging romance novel that will appeal to fans of the genre.
While it has its flaws, the book’s strengths far outweigh its limitations, and it is a testament to Deveraux’s skill as a writer. Highly recommended.
