About the Author

I grew up in a suburb of Boston and, unfortunately, my childhood was defined by the loss of my mother when I was eight. Despite this, my upbringing was relatively typical – I took music and dance lessons, attended summer camp, and went to university for psychology and sociology.

I pursued my master’s degree in sociology solely for financial reasons, as my husband was starting law school at the time.

After graduate school, I worked as a researcher for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and as a photographer and reporter for the Belmont Herald. Although I initially only wrote as a way to provide copy for my pictures, I eventually realized that I was better suited to writing than photography.

I have since used my skills to volunteer for hospital groups and serve on various boards of directors.

My career as a writer began by chance when I stumbled upon an article profiling three female writers. Intrigued, I spent three months researching, plotting, and writing my own book – which ended up being a success.

My niche as a writer is delving into the emotional crises that we all face in our lives. My readers identify with my characters and see themselves in them.

I write about the challenges of everyday life, such as marriage, parenthood, sibling rivalry, and friendship. I am grateful to have so many readers who eagerly buy my books, many of which have become bestsellers.

One of my recent novels was published in 2013, and my second novel with St. Martin’s Press became my 22nd New York Times bestseller soon after its release in June 2015. I am currently working on another book, which will be published in 2018.

I never thought I would live to see 2018 after being diagnosed with breast cancer almost 20 years ago. However, I underwent surgery and treatment and am now stronger than ever.

I am thrilled to have authored a non-fiction book called First published in 2001. This book is a practical guide filled with tips and anecdotes from 350 breast cancer survivors, their families, and friends.

I compiled this book because I wanted to help others facing this diagnosis and offer them practical advice from those who have gone through it themselves. All the profits from the book go to my charitable foundation, which funds a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Editoral Review

Sweet Salt Air is a novel by Barbara Delinsky that was first published on January 1, 2013. This book is categorized as a romantic fiction novel with a contemporary storyline that centers around two lifelong friends, Charlotte and Nicole.

The book has themes of love, friendship, family relationships, and personal growth. The story takes place on a remote island off the coast of Maine where the two childhood friends reunite after a few years apart.

Charlotte, a cooking writer, and Nicole, a successful artist, are planning to write a cookbook together, but there is more to their reunion than this collaboration. Charlotte is struggling with her marriage and trying to have a child, while Nicole tries to hide a dark secret from her past.

Throughout the book, Delinsky masterfully develops the main characters and portrays their individual struggles, giving readers a glimpse into each one’s unique perspective. There are also some interesting secondary characters that add layers to the story.

One of the outstanding aspects of Sweet Salt Air is the vivid descriptions of the island and the various settings, making the reader feel like they are right there experiencing the events firsthand. The author’s writing style is engaging and easy to read, making it a perfect choice for a relaxing beach read.

However, the pacing of the story is, at times, a bit slow, and some plot points feel predictable to readers familiar with the romance genre. Nevertheless, Delinsky’s ability to create likable and relatable characters makes the book a worthwhile read.

Sweet Salt Air is a story about secrets and forgiveness that will resonate with anyone who values friendship and self-discovery. It also celebrates the beauty of Maine, making the book an ideal read for fans of travel-focused fiction.

Barbara Delinsky’s strength lies in her ability to create engaging characters and bring them to life on the page. Overall, we recommend Sweet Salt Air to fans of contemporary romance and fiction that explores the complexity of personal relationships.

The book receives a rating of 4 out of 5 stars based on its captivating characters and vivid descriptions, despite its predictable plot at some points.
