Editoral Review

Gemma Halliday’s Sweetheart in High Heels is an entertaining mystery novel that perfectly blends intrigue and humor. Halliday’s writing style is light and witty, making for a breezy read that keeps readers engaged from start to finish.

The novel follows the story of Maddie Springer, a shoe designer turned amateur detective, who sets out to solve the murder of a close friend. The plot, while not particularly original, is tightly woven and filled with enough twists and turns to keep readers guessing until the very end.

Set in Los Angeles, the glitzy and glamorous city serves as the perfect backdrop for the murder mystery, as Halliday expertly captures the energy and excitement of the City of Angels. Of the many strengths of Sweetheart in High Heels, it is the characters that truly shine.

Maddie is a relatable protagonist who is easy to root for, and her supporting cast of colorful friends and allies adds depth and dimension to the story. Furthermore, Halliday’s sense of humor is infectious, with several laugh-out-loud moments scattered throughout the novel.

That said, there are some weaknesses to be found in the book. At times, the plot can feel overly contrived, and the resolution to the murder mystery can feel a little underwhelming.

Additionally, some readers may find that the writing style is a little too light and fluffy for their tastes. Overall, Sweetheart in High Heels is a delightful read that should be well-received by fans of mystery and romantic comedies alike.

While it may not be the most groundbreaking novel of its kind, its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. As such, I recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, easy read that will put a smile on your face.
