Editoral Review

The Battle of Evernight by Cecilia Dart-Thornton is a fantasy novel that was initially published on October 31, 2002. The Australian author, Cecilia Dart-Thornton, is popularly known for her ‘The Bitterbynde Trilogy’ and ‘The Crowthistle Chronicles.’ In The Battle of Evernight, she manages to create a unique and detailed world filled with mythical creatures, heroes, magic, and dangerous lore.

This novel is set in a place called Calambria, where the veil between the living and the dead has been breached. Evil beings called the Unseelie have poured out into the world, threatening to destroy everything in their path.

The only hope for Calambria rests on the shoulders of the young princess, Elianor, who is tasked with finding the magical sword, Everlight, and defeating the Unseelie Queen. Along the way, she meets interesting characters such as the Elvish warrior, Macsen, and the human bard, Strahan.

Together, they embark on a journey filled with danger and excitement as they save Calambria from destruction. What sets this novel apart is its attention to detail in world-building.

Dart-Thornton has created a world that is believable and intricate, filled with its own history, myths, and legends. The vivid descriptions of the landscape, flora, and fauna transport the reader into the mystical land of Calambria.

The characters are well-formed and relatable, and readers will easily connect with them. The book’s themes are perfect for young adults, and the author does an excellent job of weaving together the struggle between good and evil with love and acceptance.

The Battle of Evernight may also have historical and cultural importance for some readers, as it is heavily influenced by Celtic mythology. Despite its strengths, the book may feel slow-paced for some readers, especially in the first few chapters.

The novel also includes many characters and subplots, which can sometimes be overwhelming, and the world-building can get a little too detailed and obscure at times. Overall, The Battle of Evernight by Cecilia Dart-Thornton is a beautifully crafted novel with a unique and captivating world.

The author’s writing style and attention to detail will keep readers engaged until the end. I recommend this book to lovers of epic fantasy stories, mythology enthusiasts, or anyone looking for an engaging read with relatable characters and a fascinating world.

I give The Battle of Evernight by Cecilia Dart-Thornton a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
