About the Author
Meet Alex Garland, a multifaceted British artist born in 1970. He excels in several creative fields such as novel writing, screenwriting, and directing.
His father, Nick (Nicholas) Garland, is a political cartoonist. Garland attended the University College School in Hampstead, London, as well as the University of Manchester where he studied art history.
In 1996, Garland’s debut novel, based on his backpacking experiences, was published, and it quickly became a cult classic. The book was later adapted into a film directed by Danny Boyle and starred Leonardo DiCaprio.
Garland’s second novel, published in 1998, was also made into a film featuring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. In 2003, he wrote the screenplay for Danny Boyle’s featuring Cillian Murphy.
His third novel, published in 2004, was illustrated with woodcuts by his father.
Garland has written several screenplays, including the 2007 film directed by Danny Boyle and starring Cillian Murphy. He also served as an executive producer on which is the sequel to the movie.
