Overview

In the face of an imminent invasion by dragons and Nephilim, the inexperienced villagers of Second Eden rely on a protective wall of fire to keep them safe. But with the flames set to die out, Billy, Walter, Ashley, Elam and the dragons must recruit humans from Earth who can revert to their former dragon states to help them prepare for the attack.

In a race against time, Billy escorts Acacia, an Oracle of Fire, through a treacherous volcano portal to seek out aid. Meanwhile, Sapphira, Acacia’s sister, waits in the underworld with Bonnie and Shiloh, ready to join the battle at the signal.

As the worlds of Hades and Earth merge catastrophically, Arramos, the embodiment of evil, plans to use Bonnie to add Second Eden to the merging of the worlds, drawing his forces to Heaven’s Gate in the hope of gaining access to divine authority. To do so, he has two secret weapons: Sir Devin, the greatest dragon slayer of all, and Mardon, a brilliant scientist with the knowledge to steal the indestructibility of the Oracles, including Acacia’s.

With Semiramis, Mardon’s mother, providing vital information about Arramos’s plans, every decision made could mean the difference between survival and catastrophe. But with an ultimate battle looming, only a prophesied sacrifice can stop the coming onslaught of evil.

Who will be the sacrificial lamb? Trust is a precious commodity, and with mysteries abounding, it’s unclear who can be trusted.

Editoral Review

The Bones of Makaidos by Bryan Davis is an epic fantasy adventure novel that takes readers on a thrilling journey through a magical world filled with danger, wonder, and complex characters. Published on March 9, 2009, Davis is an accomplished author who has written several popular series within the same genre.

The novel is set in a fictional world named the Oracles of Fire, where the characters face moral and ethical dilemmas while trying to save the world from the clutches of a powerful enemy. Elam, an aspiring warrior, leads the charge into the enemy’s lair, The Bones of Makaidos, in order to save his friends and vanquish his foes.

Along the way, he encounters a diverse cast of characters, including dragons, centaurs, and gnomes, each with their own unique quirks and personalities. The book’s setting is richly imagined and described in intricate detail, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the world of Oracles of Fire.

One of the novel’s strengths is its character development. Davis does an excellent job of weaving together the multiple storylines and character arcs, which creates an engaging and immersive narrative.

The characters’ struggles feel realistic, and their actions have real consequences, which adds depth and nuance to the novel. The book’s themes of good versus evil, loyalty, sacrifice, and redemption are explored in a meaningful way that makes readers think about their own lives and the world around them.

The pacing of the novel keeps readers on the edge of their seat, with plenty of action, suspense, and surprises throughout. The story has a satisfying progression, as each chapter builds upon the last and towards the ultimate conclusion.

The plot’s twists and turns keep readers guessing, while the climactic battle is both thrilling and emotionally satisfying.

However, the book may not appeal to all readers.

The novel can be dense, and the sheer amount of characters, creatures, and magical elements can be overwhelming at times, which could turn off some readers. Additionally, the dialogue and language can be stilted and formal, which may not be suitable for all readers.

In conclusion, The Bones of Makaidos is a well-crafted and engaging fantasy adventure novel that will appeal to fans of the genre. While not perfect, the book’s strengths far outweigh its flaws, and it is a satisfying read.

Readers who appreciate complex characters, richly imagined worlds, and nuanced themes will enjoy this book. Based on my overall impression, I would give the book a 4 out of 5 stars.
