About the Author

Enid Mary Blyton was a children’s book writer from England. She was born in South London and was the oldest among her siblings.

From an early age, Enid showed an interest in music and reading. She went to St. Christopher’s School, Beckenham, and later, Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher.

She taught for five years before marrying editor Hugh Pollock in 1924. They had two daughters, but the marriage ended in divorce.

Enid remarried in 1943 to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters, but she died a year after her second marriage.

Enid was a productive writer, and she wrote about 800 books in her career that spanned over 40 years. Her stories mostly revolved around mystery and adventure, magic, and fantasy.

Her most popular series include The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare’s.

In 2007, the Index Translationum ranked Enid as the fifth most popular author worldwide, outranking Shakespeare but coming after Lenin.
